Ajay Devgn returns to one of his most entertaining avatars with Son of Sardaar 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit. Directed by Ashwni Dhir and produced under the Ajay Devgn FFilms banner, the film promises to be louder, funnier, and bigger than its predecessor. At the trailer launch, Devgn opened up about why the sequel took time, how the script finally won him over, and why the cast needed a refresh.
“It was a lot of fun… honestly, I had a great time doing this,” Devgn said. “The script was hilarious. When you're making Son of Sardaar 2, and people already love the first part, you can’t just match it — you have to go beyond it.”
He revealed that the team waited patiently for the right story to come along.
“People loved the first part. But until the right bell rings — the right script — you don’t begin. You want something that’s either as good or better than the first. That’s always the goal. And as soon as we got that script, we jumped in.”
The sequel brings a fresh storyline and a new cast, including Mrunal Thakur, while retaining the film’s original heart. “The story moves forward, so the cast had to be freshened up. It was necessary to take it in a new direction.”
With high expectations from fans and audiences who still remember the original fondly, Son of Sardaar 2 aims to double the entertainment with heart, humor, and high energy. The film is set to release on July 25, 2025
