Actress Yamini Malhotra, known for her vibrant energy and versatile performances, made a rather unique entry into the Indian film industry — she debuted in both Punjabi and Telugu cinema on the very same day. In a candid conversation, she shared her experiences and the stark contrasts she observed between the two industries.
"I started my career in Punjabi and Telugu cinema on the exact same date. By coincidence, both of my debut films were released on the same day," Yamini recalls. "We shot the Punjabi film first — we went to Chandigarh and then shot in Firozpur."
Talking about her experience on the Punjabi film set, Yamini paints a picture filled with warmth and camaraderie. "The environment there felt like one big family gathering. All the cast and crew members were staying at the same hotel. It honestly felt like we were attending a wedding. Everyone was chirpy and full of life. We ate meals together, laughed together… It never felt like a professional film shoot. It was more like being surrounded by your masis, mamas, chachas — just pure love and bonding."
However, the shift to the Telugu industry was a contrasting experience for her. "When I moved on to shoot the Telugu film, it was completely different. Nobody really spoke to each other. Everyone just arrived, did their scenes, and left. The atmosphere was very quiet and reserved."
But Yamini’s inherent Punjabi warmth soon started melting barriers. "Being Punjabi, I naturally started chatting with everyone on set. Slowly, people started opening up. Eventually, we were all having meals together. I remember my producer even telling me, ‘You’ve completely changed the vibe on our set!’”
Despite the initial cultural gap, Yamini holds the Telugu industry in high regard for its professionalism. "They are extremely professional and dedicated to their craft. And the way they treat their lead actors — it's incredible. The hero and heroine are treated almost like gods on set. There’s immense respect and care. It was truly heartwarming to experience."
