Amid the high-voltage promotions of 120 Bahadur, Farhan Akhtar surprised fans with the chilling, slow-burn trailer for his upcoming supernatural thriller series Andhera, dropping August 14 on Amazon Prime Video. Produced under Excel Entertainment, Andhera promises a gripping descent into Mumbai’s murky underworld—not of crime, but of spirits, secrets, and urban legends brought horrifyingly to life.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Farhan wrote: “As the city sleeps, Andhera awakens.” The teaser’s cryptic tagline is more than just moody prose—it perfectly captures the show’s eerie, twilight-drenched aesthetic. The trailer introduces us to a fearless Mumbai cop, a haunted medical student, and a growing, almost invisible evil that feeds off the city’s forgotten souls. Think Sacred Games meets The Haunting of Hill House, but with a distinctly desi nerve.

Led by a stellar cast including Priya Bapat, Karanvir Malhotra, Prajakta Koli (aka MostlySane), and Surveen Chawla, Andhera blends seasoned performers with rising digital stars. With Raaghav Dar directing and Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Kassim Jagmagia producing, the series has the DNA of a top-tier thriller—with just enough mythos and madness to give you goosebumps.

The trailer is saturated in dark, saturated tones and night-time cityscapes, playing on the juxtaposition of Mumbai’s constant movement and the slow crawl of something… off. Andhera doesn’t rely on jump scares. It leans into psychological dread, ambient horror, and the city’s own lore—gritty, grounded, and uncomfortably real. This isn’t horror in the hills. This is horror in your building’s basement.

With genre storytelling gaining serious traction in Indian OTT content, Andhera positions itself as India’s next major horror binge, and rightfully so. It’s sleek, sinister, and socially relevant—tapping into not just supernatural fear, but the trauma, loss, and isolation lurking behind closed doors in crowded cities. Andhera isn't just about what goes bump in the night. It’s about what we ignore in the daylight.

Watch Andhera on Prime Video starting August 14—just maybe not alone.
