Bleecker Street has just dropped a stylish, retro-inspired trailer for Relay, the upcoming paranoia thriller from acclaimed filmmaker David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water). Drenched in gritty 1970s espionage vibes with a modern edge, the film is set to hit theaters on August 22, 2025, and is already turning heads for its slick tone and sharp premise.
Riz Ahmed leads the cast as a mysterious, world-class "fixer"—a professional middleman who negotiates discreet, high-stakes payoffs between shady corporations and the people threatening to expose them. Known for his precision, anonymity, and rule-following ethos, his controlled world is upended when he receives a desperate message from a woman (played by Lily James) who needs his help just to stay alive.
As the fixer’s carefully curated identity begins to unravel, the trailer teases a web of conspiracies, betrayals, and a looming sense of danger—all wrapped in a visual style straight out of classic thrillers like The Parallax View and Three Days of the Condor. From shadowy alleyways to smoke-filled boardrooms, Relay promises a tense ride through the underbelly of corporate corruption.
The film also stars Sam Worthington, Willa Fitzgerald, Matthew Maher, Mike Holt, and Eisa Davis, adding depth to a strong ensemble. With a screenplay penned by Justin Piasecki, Relay blends noir-ish atmosphere with modern urgency, tapping into today’s obsession with secrecy, surveillance, and power.
Relay might just be this year’s slickest, slow-burn thriller—and with Mackenzie behind the camera and Riz Ahmed at the helm, the tension is guaranteed to be dialed up to eleven.
