If you’re a horror fan who thrives on tension, mystery, and a creeping sense of dread, Man Finds Tape is about to become your newest obsession. Magnolia Pictures has released the official trailer for this chilling found footage indie from Austin filmmakers Peter S. Hall and Paul Gandersman. Premiering earlier this year at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival and making stops at Fantasy Filmfest, Beyond Fest, Sitges, and the Telluride Horror Show, the film is finally set for a US release on December 5, 2025.

The story centers on siblings Lucas (William Magnuson) and Lynn (Kelsey Pribilski), whose lives spiral into terror after discovering mysterious video clips on Lucas’ YouTube channel, “Man Finds Tape.” What begins as curiosity quickly escalates into a nightmare: a decades-old supernatural phenomenon haunts their Texas town, and nothing—or no one—can be trusted. When a mysterious stranger (Brian Villalobos) enters the mix, Lynn must confront a family legacy tied to a deadly, lurking monster.

Hall and Gandersman’s debut is a masterclass in tension-building. Using the found footage format, they craft an intimate, bone-chilling narrative that feels eerily real. Critics have hailed the film as “a reminder that in horror, a good idea and a band of supportive collaborators is all you ever really need.” It’s not just jump scares—Man Finds Tape thrives on a slow-burning, psychological dread that sticks long after the credits roll.

The performances elevate the film from a simple thriller to a genuinely unsettling experience. Pribilski’s portrayal of a hesitant but determined sister is compelling, while Magnuson’s portrayal of the obsessed brother feels authentic and relatable. Add in the sinister presence of Villalobos’ stranger, and the tension ratchets up to nearly unbearable levels. Every creak of a floorboard and flicker on a screen in Larkin, TX, feels loaded with menace.

With a tight indie production team, including producers Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, David Lawson Jr., and Ashley Landavazo, Man Finds Tape is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about horror debuts of the year. Fans of the genre—especially those who prefer suspenseful, eerie thrills over gore—will want to mark their calendars for December 5. Grab your popcorn, keep the lights on, and prepare to get creeped out.
