The cinematic universe stood still for a moment on November 15, 2025, as the first look of Varanasi-the long-awaited collaboration between Mahesh Babu and master storyteller SS Rajamouli was finally revealed. And if the thunderous response at Hyderabad’s Globetrotter event was any indication, this film is gearing up to redefine what “massive” truly means.

From the very first frame of the concept video, Varanasi announces itself not merely as a movie, but as a monumental world-building event. Rajamouli, known for crafting universes that feel larger than legend itself, seems to have outdone even his own legacy here.

The reveal showcases Mahesh Babu in a never-before-seen avatar ferocious, mythical, and almost elemental. His character, Rudhra, is introduced riding a majestic white bull through swirling sands, gripping a Trishul that glows like it carries the weight of centuries. With unkempt long hair, a thick warrior’s beard, and a backdrop that resembles an ancient city carved out of time itself, Mahesh’s transformation is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

As the title Varanasi appears onscreen, two hashtags flash beneath it: #GlobeTrotter and #TimeTrotter. These clues drop a fascinating bombshell—Rudhra isn’t only navigating continents; he’s leaping across eras.

Rajamouli’s ambition for a time-travel adventure rooted in Hindu mythology instantly gives Varanasi the aura of a once-in-a-generation cinematic spectacle. From ancient civilizations and mystical relics to futuristic threats and cosmic lore, the film hints at a narrative that fuses science fiction with spiritual symbolism.

Adding to the excitement are the fierce first looks of Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the formidable villain Kumbha. Priyanka’s golden-saree-clad femme fatale avatar radiates danger and divinity in equal measure. Prithviraj, on the other hand, embodies menace—his character’s cold gaze and battle-ready stance promise a showdown of epic proportions. With three powerhouse performers leading the charge, Varanasi positions itself as a character-driven saga wrapped in the sheen of mythic spectacle.

With the shoot slated to continue through 2026 and a theatrical release planned for March 25, 2027, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the boldest and most lavishly mounted projects in Indian cinema. What began as SSMB29 has now evolved into a mythic odyssey that could push the boundaries of storytelling, technology, and imagination.

And if this first look is just the beginning, the world is not ready for what’s coming next.
