Legendary filmmaker Subhash Ghai was a highlight at the Jagran Film Festival 2025 in Andheri, Mumbai, held from November 13th to 16th at Cinepolis, Fun Republic Mall. Known as the “showman” of Bollywood, Ghai’s presence added glamour and cinematic gravitas to the festival, which spanned multiple cities across India this year.
An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Ghai began his career as an actor before moving into screenwriting and direction. His debut as a director came with the hit action-thriller Kalicharan (1976), paving the way for decades of blockbuster filmmaking. He went on to direct iconic films like Karz (1980), Hero (1983), Meri Jung (1985), Karma (1986), Ram Lakhan (1989), Saudagar (1991), Khalnayak (1993), Pardes (1997), and Taal (1999), many of which became defining works of Hindi cinema.
Beyond filmmaking, Ghai founded Mukta Arts in 1982, which later became a public company in 2000. He is also the founder and chairman of Whistling Woods International, a premier film and media arts institute in Mumbai established in 2006. Under Mukta Arts, he operates a chain of multiplexes branded Mukta A2 Cinemas, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit alongside his cinematic contributions.
The Jagran Film Festival 2025 celebrated the diversity and creativity of Indian cinema, featuring screenings, panel discussions, and workshops. Ghai’s participation highlighted his ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and supporting the arts, inspiring the next generation of filmmakers and enthusiasts.
