The first glimpse of Mayasabha, the upcoming film from Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve, has arrived—and it’s already making waves. The makers unveiled a chilling motion poster on Friday, immediately sparking conversations among fans who were struck by its unsettling visual palette and mythic undertones. What stood out most, however, was Jaaved Jaaferi’s jaw-dropping transformation, which left many viewers unable to recognize him.
Sharing the motion poster on Instagram, Jaaferi reflected on the magnitude of the project and the personal toll it demanded. In a heartfelt note, he described Mayasabha as the most challenging role of his four-decade career—one that tested him “physically and emotionally” unlike anything before. Calling it the best script he has ever read, the actor praised Barve’s vision and expressed his excitement for audiences to experience the film’s dark and layered world.
The poster itself hints at a narrative steeped in mystery and intensity. Jaaferi appears adorned in metallic gold makeup, his long silver-streaked hair flowing around a mask that conceals much of his face. The imagery evokes an ancient, ritualistic atmosphere—one that echoes Barve’s trademark ability to blend folklore, fantasy, and horror into compelling cinematic myth.
While anticipation builds for Mayasabha, Jaaferi is already captivating audiences in a completely different avatar. He stars in the recently released romantic comedy De De Pyaar De 2, alongside Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R. Madhavan, and his son Meezaan Jafri. Directed by Anshul Sharma, the film hit theatres on November 14 and has been met with warm appreciation from viewers.
With Mayasabha, Jaaferi appears ready to deliver a performance unlike any he has attempted before. And if the first look is any indication, Rahi Anil Barve may be crafting another cinematic world as eerie, imaginative, and unforgettable as Tumbbad.
