In a landmark collaboration, Roy Kapur Films (RKF), headed by veteran producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, has partnered with Pratilipi, India’s largest digital storytelling platform, to adapt homegrown narratives into films and series for both Indian and global audiences. This alliance kicks off with the adaptation of Charitraheen, a courtroom drama that has garnered over 21 million reads and an impressive 4.88/5 rating on the Pratilipi app.

Announcing the news on social media, Roy Kapur Films wrote, “We’re excited to partner with @TeamPratilipi... First up: Charitraheen — a courtroom drama that’s already captivated millions of readers. Many voices. One mission: to tell India’s most compelling stories.”

This strategic partnership aims to co-develop at least six projects — both films and series — over the next three years, combining Pratilipi’s massive content reservoir with RKF’s storytelling finesse and production capabilities. With over 30 million monthly active users and a content bank across 12 Indian languages, Pratilipi offers a treasure trove of diverse, grassroots narratives from emerging and established writers.

RKF brings to the table a portfolio of critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions (The Sky Is Pink, Dangal, Yeh Ballet), and a reputation for emotionally resonant, culturally impactful storytelling.

The first title under this partnership, Charitraheen, is a gripping courtroom drama centered on themes of gender, justice, and social bias. It’s already created a massive buzz on the Pratilipi platform, drawing hundreds of thousands of user reviews and sparking intense reader engagement. Now, it is poised to reach wider audiences as it transitions into a screen adaptation.

Siddharth Roy Kapur shared his excitement, stating: “We’re always on the lookout for compelling narratives that reflect the many realities and aspirations of India. Pratilipi’s ecosystem presents an incredible opportunity to shape voices that entertain and move audiences worldwide.”

Ranjeet Pratap Singh, CEO of Pratilipi, added: “Our goal has always been to give powerful stories a stage. This partnership is a step further — from page to screen — and we believe Charitraheen is just the beginning.”

This collaboration exemplifies a larger trend: the democratization of storytelling. By merging digital-first platforms like Pratilipi with traditional cinematic powerhouses like RKF, the Indian entertainment landscape is evolving to embrace grassroots creativity, regional diversity, and new voices. It sets a precedent for how powerful narratives from India’s hinterlands can find a global audience when backed by the right vision and infrastructure.
