If you've been wondering whether anything unusual has happened lately—well, Park Chan-wook just dropped a brand-new trailer that practically winks and whispers, “Oh, you have no idea.” Neon and IMAX revealed the latest look at No Other Choice, a one-day-only IMAX special that proves the master of stylish chaos is back, and he’s brought a pitch-black grin with him. Based on Donald Westlake’s 1997 anti-capitalist novel The Ax, Park fully reinvents the premise into a Korean fable that is equal parts desperate, hilarious, and morally… flexible.

The plot centers on Man-soo, played by the always-phenomenal Lee Byung-hun, who gets laid off and spends years spiraling into unemployment. But because this is a Park Chan-wook film—and not a motivational TED Talk—his solution isn’t polishing his résumé. No, no. Man-soo decides the best way to secure a new job is to eliminate the competition. Efficient? Questionable. Entertaining? Absolutely. With a supporting cast including Son Ye-jin, Yeom Hye-ran, Park Hee-soon, Yoo Yeon-seok, and Cha Seung-won, the film promises a twisted symphony of panic, ambition, and sharply choreographed mayhem.

No Other Choice premiered at Venice in 2025 before heading to TIFF and NYFF, earning rave reviews from critics who apparently enjoyed watching capitalism collapse in the most stylish way possible. Park, whose résumé already includes Oldboy, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave, once again blends philosophical despair with wicked humor and knife-edge tension. If you’ve ever wondered what unemployment mixed with existential dread tastes like—he’s serving it IMAX-sized.

The film opened in Korea in September, but the IMAX event marks its dramatic entrance onto U.S. screens. Neon will release it in select theaters on December 25th, 2025—yes, Christmas Day—because nothing says “holiday spirit” like a man deciding that his only path to a new job might involve… reducing the applicant pool. A wider release follows in January, offering audiences across the country a chance to witness Park Chan-wook’s latest beautifully deranged masterpiece.
