The much-anticipated title track of Dhadak 2, penned by the acclaimed lyricist duo Rashmi Virag, has struck a deep chord with audiences across the country. Garnering admiration from both critics and fans alike, the song is not just a melody—it's the emotional heartbeat of the film. In an exclusive conversation, lyricist opened up about the process of creating the song, the immense responsibility it carried, and the team effort that brought it to life.

“This wasn’t easy,” he confessed. “When you’re writing the title track for a film as big as Dhadak 2, under the Dharma Productions banner, you’re carrying the responsibility of the entire franchise’s sonic identity. It’s the first exposure the audience gets to the film. It’s everything.”

Rashmi Virag spoke candidly about the early struggle to find the right direction for the song. “The story is courageous, set against a societal backdrop, and demanded sensitivity. In the beginning, I couldn’t quite grasp it. But then came a eureka moment. Javed and Mohsin—who are known for creating anthems, not just songs—said, ‘Let’s pause. Let’s do what feels true to the heart.’ After that, everything began to fall into place.” The track eventually found its form so much so that it now has two beautifully distinct versions: one sung by Shreya Ghoshal and  Jubin Nautiyal. and the other by  Vishal Mishra .

For Rashmi, songwriting is about balance. “Good lyrics lie in what you say, and also in what you choose not to say. There should be emotional layers—what’s spoken and what’s unspoken—both.'

Speaking on trends and the ever-changing music landscape, Rashmi shared a grounded perspective. “There’s always been this notion that the past was better. In the 60s, people said the 50s were golden. In the 2000s, people praised the 90s. That nostalgia will always exist. In today’s age, we’re flooded with content from all directions. It’s difficult to apply a quality filter. But as creative people, we must stay focused on our own work. What someone else is doing shouldn’t distract us.”

And perhaps his most powerful reminder:
“Music doesn’t belong to Gen Z or millennials. It only belongs to emotion, to expression. Its only purpose is to bring peace and happiness to people’s lives.”
