Devara is a cinematic experience that feels like a long, awkward family reunion—filled with drama, confusion, and a whole lot of questionable decisions. Set in a coastal village that seems to have witnessed more bloodshed than a slasher movie marathon, this film promises epic proportions but delivers a soggy noodle of a narrative.

Jr NTR plays Devara, a guy with a guilty conscience who suddenly decides to become a moral superhero. The plot kicks off with some intriguing themes, but much like a toddler with a crayon, it quickly spirals into chaos. Characters appear and disappear with the grace of a bad magician, and the story feels like it’s been written by someone who only skimmed the plot summary. Who are these people? What do they want? Is anyone even paying attention?

Jr NTR gives it his all, but even he can’t salvage a script that feels like it was hastily scribbled on a napkin. Saif Ali Khan’s Bhairaa is the villain we didn’t ask for—think cardboard cutout with a bad accent. Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor seems to have been dropped in from a rom-com, providing comic relief that falls flatter than a pancake. Honestly, her character could have been replaced by a goldfish, and it wouldn’t have made a difference.

Koratala Siva appears to have been aiming for epic but landed squarely in the realm of “What were they thinking?” The action sequences are so poorly choreographed that they make a high school drama club look like seasoned stunt professionals. The cinematography? Let’s just say if the goal was to create a visually dull experience, mission accomplished. There are moments that should be thrilling but instead make you want to take a nap.

Anirudh Ravichander’s background score is the only thing that doesn’t make you want to claw your eyes out. It’s catchy enough to get stuck in your head, but even that doesn’t save the film from its inevitable descent into mediocrity.

Devara is a cinematic buffet where everything looks good on the surface but leaves a bad taste in your mouth. With underdeveloped characters, a plot that goes nowhere, and a director who seems to have lost the plot entirely, this film is less of an epic saga and more of an epic fail. If you’re in the mood for a good laugh, gather some friends, grab some popcorn, and watch this train wreck unfold—it’s unintentionally hilarious! Otherwise, save yourself the trouble and skip to something that actually knows what it wants to be.
