Vertical has unveiled the eerie and atmospheric trailer for We Bury The Dead, a horror-thriller that promises to kick off 2026 with a terrifying bang. Written and directed by Zak Hilditch (1922), the film stars Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley in a gritty, emotionally charged role that plunges her deep into post-apocalyptic Tasmania — where the dead don’t just rise… they hunt.
Set in the haunting aftermath of a military experiment gone horribly wrong, the film follows Ava (Ridley), a woman searching for her missing husband amid the ruins of a disease-ravaged landscape. She joins a “body retrieval unit,” tasked with burying the countless dead — but things take a horrific turn when some of the corpses begin to stir. What starts as a desperate search becomes a chilling fight for survival, and a reckoning with the ghosts of her past.
The film also stars Brenton Thwaites (Titans), Matt Whelan (Narcos), Chloe Hurst, Kym Jackson, and Mark Coles Smith, rounding out a cast prepared to dive into the bleak emotional and physical terrain of this undead nightmare. Shot against the rugged and isolated backdrop of southern Tasmania, the trailer teases a slow-burning dread filled with visceral tension, human grief, and creeping terror.
More than a standard zombie flick, We Bury The Dead looks to blend horror with emotional depth — a character-driven survival story about love, loss, and what remains when everything else is gone. Fans of smart, moody thrillers with a pulse (and a bite) won’t want to miss this one.
We Bury The Dead hits theaters on January 2nd, 2026.
