Awards : In 1999, Khan won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his extended guest appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). In 2011, he won the Screen Award for Best Actor for his performance in Dabangg and in 2012, he won the Best Actor Popular Choice for his performances in Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2. Eight of the films he has acted in, have accumulated gross earnings of over ?100 crore (US$13 million) worldwide. He played leading roles in five consecutive blockbusters including Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, and Dabangg 2. In 2018, he won Best Actor for his performance in Sultan at Tehran International Sports Film Festival. He has starred in more than 80 Hindi films and thus far has established himself as a leading actor of Hindi cinema.


Salman Khan is one of the most charismatic, flamboyant and commercially successful actors of Hindi cinema. The superstar has a huge fan following not just in India but all around the world and his popularity is perfectly reflected by the numerous awards and recognitions bestowed on him. Voted as the Sexiest Man Alive in 2010 by the People Magazine India, the actor is one of the few Indian celebrities who has wax statue in London and New York`s Madame Tussauds Museum. Right from his debut as a lead actor in Maine Pyar Kiya, the swashbuckling actor has featured in some of the biggest hits including Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Tere Naam, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dabangg, Wanted, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and many more. The actor has made it a habit to enthrall and entertain the Indian audience with his perfectly chiseled bare body acts, sizzling action and punchy dialogues, and his movies are always one of the most anticipated releases.

Apart from acting, Sallu Bhai, as he is popularly known, dons the hat of a producer, TV host and presenter with elan. While Bhai is not acting and is away from the spotlight, he likes to paint. The actor is also known for his various charitable works and his NGO `Being Human` supports various humanitarian causes.

Early Life
Born as Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan in Indore Madhya Pradesh, the actor is the son of legendary screenwriter Salim Khan and Sushila Charak. He was born on December 27, 1965, and comes from an illustrious family that has a deep rooted connection in the Bollywood. His father Salim Khan is one of the most celebrated screenwriters in the industry and his brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, are both actors and producers. His step-mother Helen, his sister-in-law VJ Malaika Arora Khan, and his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri too have Bollywood connections.

Salman Khan`s mother, Sushila Charak, who later changed her name to Salma Khan is a Maharashtrian and giving due respect to his father`s and mother`s cultural background, Salman maintains that he is both a Hindu and a Muslim. Salman attended St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai and then went to Elphinstone College but dropped out after completing his second year.

Personal Life
Although the star has been linked to numerous women and a lot has been said and written about his love life, Salman Khan is single and is one of the most eligible bachelors. Speculations have been rife that the actor is set to tie the knot with a Romanian girl, Lulia Vantur, whom he is supposedly dating.

Acting Career
The mega-star made his acting debut with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988. A year later, Salman Khan featured in the romantic family drama movie, Maine Pyar Kiya. The smashing success of the movie paved the way for Salman Khan to become the superstar that he is today. In 1990, Salman Khan starred in Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, which was a huge box-office hit. The actor, followed up with three more moderately hit films in 1991, namely, Sanam Bewafa, Kurbaan and Patthar Ke Phool. In the same year, Salman co-starred in the romance drama film, Saajan along with Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. The movie was a financial and critical success. But despite his early success, most of his releases in 1992-93 were either average hits or failures.

The year 1994 was a huge turnaround for the actor as he signed up for his second collaboration with Sooraj Barjatya and starred in one of the most iconic family movies, Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! co-starring Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl and Renuka Shahane. The movie was received with great reviews and was a smashing hit in terms of box-office collections. It went to bag several awards, most prominent being the National Award for Most Popular Film of the Year.

The following year, Salman Khan starred in Rakesh Roshan`s Karan Arjun alongside Shah Rukh Khan. In the movie the Khan`s played brothers who are reincarnated after being killed by their family enemy. The film was the second biggest hit of the year and his role as Karan won him a nomination at the Filmfare Awards for Best Actor.

The actor`s 1996 releases including Khamoshi: The Musical the directorial debut of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Raj Kanwar`s Jeet did not do well at the box-office. The year 1997 saw the star appearing in two movies, Judwaa and Auzaar, both of which were average hits. In the following year, Khan worked in five films and his first release of the year was Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. The movie was not only a huge commercial success but also it marked Salman`s first on-screen bare body appearance. He ended the year with another smashing hit as he appeared in a cameo in Karan Johar`s directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for which he won his second Filmfare Aware in Best Supporting Actor category.

Salman Khan continued his good run in 1999 with three more hits as he starred in Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No. 1 and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam alongside Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. All the three films were a huge commercial hits. The next few years were subdued as the star did not have any smashing hits, barring the 2000 film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, a movie that addressed the issue of surrogate childbirth. His role as a rich industrialist and a family man was applauded and this marked his beginning of doing more serious roles.

The year 2003 was a very fruitful year for the star in terms of commercial success as well as establishing his image as an actor who can pull off any role with supreme ease. The actor showed his versatility when he essayed the role of Radhe, an obsessive lover in Tere Naam, his role in the movie is considered to be the best critically acclaimed performance till date. His subsequent releases,Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005) were successful at the box office.

The superstar made his debut on the TV screen in 2009 as he hosted the second season of 10 Ka Dum. The show was a super-hit and got very high TRPs for Sony Entertainment Television. In the same year, Salman Khan starred in Prabhudeva`s, Wanted which not just became a box office success but also earned the super-hit status. His next release in September 2010, Dabangg produced by Arbaaz Khan saw Sallu Bhai portraying the role of an eccentric and fearless cop. The film went on to gross Rs. 808.7 million in the first week, breaking several previous records. The movie also went to win several awards.

The Dabangg star`s first release in 2011 was Ready, which became the second highest grossing Bollywood movie of the year. His next release in the same year was Bodyguard, a Malayalam remake of the same name. Although the movie did not receive any praise from the critics, it became India`s highest-earning film of the year, raking in Rs. 1,409.5 million.

The star`s 2012 release, Ek Tha Tiger opposite his then alleged girlfriend, Katrina Kaif was not well received but the movie did well in terms of box office collection. It went to gross over Rs. 3 Billion worldwide and Salman Khan entered the elite 100 crore club in just five days.

His second release in 2012, Dabangg 2, which was the sequel of Dabangg under the production of Arbaaz Khan and his 2014 movie, Jai Ho opposite Daisy Shah also performed pretty well. His second release of 2014, Kick, which is the remake of Telugu movie of the same name entered the Rs. 200 crore club. In 2015 Khan`s first film, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, got positive reviews from critics and public. The first-week collection went to Rs. 1.02 Billion and it crossed the 300 crore mark in just 20 days. In 2016, he was seen opposite Anushka Sharma in the romantic drama Sultan, which released on Eid and went on to become a commercial success, becoming a part of the 300-club. Few of Salman`s 2017 projects include No Entry Mein Entry, Tubelight, and Tiger Zinda Hai. His other releases include Dabangg 3 (2019), Bharat (2019), Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai (2021) and Antim: The Final Truth (2021).
