Awards : In 1999, Khan won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his extended guest appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Early Life
Born as Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan in Indore Madhya Pradesh, the actor is the son of legendary screenwriter Salim Khan and Sushila Charak. He was born on December 27, 1965, and comes from an illustrious family that has a deep rooted connection in the Bollywood. His father Salim Khan is one of the most celebrated screenwriters in the industry and his brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, are both actors and producers. His step-mother Helen, his sister-in-law VJ Malaika Arora Khan, and his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri too have Bollywood connections.
Salman Khan`s mother, Sushila Charak, who later changed her name to Salma Khan is a Maharashtrian and giving due respect to his father`s and mother`s cultural background, Salman maintains that he is both a Hindu and a Muslim. Salman attended St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai and then went to Elphinstone College but dropped out after completing his second year.
Personal Life
Although the star has been linked to numerous women and a lot has been said and written about his love life, Salman Khan is single and is one of the most eligible bachelors. Speculations have been rife that the actor is set to tie the knot with a Romanian girl, Lulia Vantur, whom he is supposedly dating.
Acting Career
The mega-star made his acting debut with a supporting role in Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988. A year later, Salman Khan featured in the romantic family drama movie, Maine Pyar Kiya. The smashing success of the movie paved the way for Salman Khan to become the superstar that he is today. In 1990, Salman Khan starred in Baaghi: A Rebel for Love, which was a huge box-office hit. The actor, followed up with three more moderately hit films in 1991, namely, Sanam Bewafa, Kurbaan and Patthar Ke Phool. In the same year, Salman co-starred in the romance drama film, Saajan along with Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. The movie was a financial and critical success. But despite his early success, most of his releases in 1992-93 were either average hits or failures.
The year 1994 was a huge turnaround for the actor as he signed up for his second collaboration with Sooraj Barjatya and starred in one of the most iconic family movies, Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! co-starring Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl and Renuka Shahane. The movie was received with great reviews and was a smashing hit in terms of box-office collections. It went to bag several awards, most prominent being the National Award for Most Popular Film of the Year.
The following year, Salman Khan starred in Rakesh Roshan`s Karan Arjun alongside Shah Rukh Khan. In the movie the Khan`s played brothers who are reincarnated after being killed by their family enemy. The film was the second biggest hit of the year and his role as Karan won him a nomination at the Filmfare Awards for Best Actor.
The actor`s 1996 releases including Khamoshi: The Musical the directorial debut of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Raj Kanwar`s Jeet did not do well at the box-office. The year 1997 saw the star appearing in two movies, Judwaa and Auzaar, both of which were average hits. In the following year, Khan worked in five films and his first release of the year was Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. Salman Khan continued his good run in 1999 with three more hits as he starred in Hum Saath Saath Hain, Biwi No. 1 and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam alongside Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. His second release in 2012, Dabangg 2, which was the sequel of Dabangg under the production of Arbaaz Khan and his 2014 movie, Jai Ho opposite Daisy Shah also performed pretty well.
