Tusshar Kapoor recently shared his thoughts on his latest horror-comedy Kapkapiii, a remake of the Telugu hit Romancham, which also marks the final directorial work of veteran filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan. Despite the film's limited theatrical run, Tusshar expressed satisfaction with the audience's response and revealed that he’s now looking forward to its OTT release. “The response to the film has been really good, though we didn’t get too many shows because of the timing. A lot of movies came out at once, and with everything happening in the country in May, the timing wasn’t the best. But whoever watched it gave great feedback,” he said. “The real outcome of the film will be the OTT release.”
Reflecting on the challenges and perceptions around remakes, Tusshar, who made his own acting debut with a remake (Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai), emphasized that the format isn’t what determines a film’s success. “Every film has its own destiny, its own strengths and weaknesses. It’s not about whether it’s a remake or not. The script must be entertaining. The look of the film, the story, the screenplay, the horror element, the comic angle—everything must come together for audiences to enjoy it. Then, it’s worth making a remake,” he explained.
Kapkapiii, which also stars Shreyas Talpade and Siddhi Idnani, features an adapted screenplay by Kumar Priyadarshi and Saurabh Anand. The film was in the final stages of post-production when director Sangeeth Sivan sadly passed away. Tusshar spoke fondly of the late filmmaker, saying, “I watched Romancham and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was offered Kapkapiii by Sangeeth Sivan. He is no more, but I did this movie because of him. I had full faith that he would make this film properly.”
As Kapkapiii gears up for its digital release, Tusshar Kapoor remains hopeful that the film will find its wider audience on streaming platforms. With a genre-blending approach and heartfelt dedication to its late director, the film carries not just entertainment value but emotional weight as well.
