Sandeepa Dhar, a rising star in the entertainment industry, recently opened up about her role in the show Pyar Ka Professor and shared insights into her acting journey. Her candid reflections offer a glimpse into her evolving career and the challenges she’s faced along the way.
Sandeepa's involvement in Pyar Ka Professor began with a call from the show’s casting director, Mukesh Chhabra. Recalling the moment, she shared, “Mukesh Chhabra called me and told me that they were casting for a new show. There was a character named Malika, a primary character, and he said, ‘I think you can do justice to this role.’”
Chhabra sent her three episodes of the show to review, and Sandeepa wasted no time diving into the script. “I started reading it, and usually, within the first 10 pages, I can tell if it’s good writing or not. Initially, I thought Malika was an odd character, and I judged her. But as I went on to finish the episodes, I realized this was a story that needed to be told. This is a character no one has explored before.”
The character of Malika, who navigates her own pleasure and desires in a relationship, struck a chord with Sandeepa. She explained, “The show dives into themes that are rarely discussed, particularly women’s pleasure. It’s always associated with men and their desires. Even the marital relationship between Malika and her husband was written in such a beautiful, realistic way. It felt very dynamic and real. I knew this would be an interesting role to portray.”
However, the subject matter wasn’t without its concerns. “I was a bit nervous because concepts like this can be tricky. If not handled sensitively, they could come across as cringy. But after speaking to the director, Akshay, and asking him a lot of questions, I was convinced this was a story worth telling,” she added.
Sandeepa’s journey in acting has been one of constant self-reflection and growth. “There have been ups and downs, moments filled with self-doubt. I often wonder whether I’m doing the right thing, whether I’m on the right path, and if this is what I should be doing. But at the same time, I’ve always been passionate about acting and dancing. And I’m finally doing the things I always wanted to do. The people I am working with, I had a list when I started, and now, one by one, I am ticking off the names,” she shared with a smile.
Looking ahead to 2024, Sandeepa is excited for what’s to come. “I have shot for three or four things this year, and they’re all set to release soon. Two films, in particular, are coming out, but I can’t speak much about one of them. One of the films is directed by Laxman Utekar, featuring Nimrat Kaur, Sunny Kaushal, and Kunal Roy Kapoor. We shot in Bikaner, and it was such a fun experience. It was a memorable shoot, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it,” she said.
