Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, who is making a comeback to Bengali with Puratawn, praised the efforts of MAMI for taking the whole film-festival space to whole new level.
At the recent MAMI premiere of Puratawn, iconic actress Sharmila Tagore shared her enthusiasm for her return to Bengali cinema after a 15-year hiatus. Engaging with the media, she expressed her anticipation for the film, stating, “I am really looking forward to seeing Puratawn. It was my Bengali film after many years, and I liked the film. Although I haven’t seen it entirely, the little bit of rushes that I have seen, I have liked it very much. I hope that everybody would like it too.”
Tagore also took the opportunity to commend the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) for its role in promoting diverse cinema. She noted the festival's growth over the years, emphasizing its importance as a platform for both Indian and international films. “MAMI is doing absolutely wonderful work. The kind of films they are bringing, the participation from everyone, and the increasing numbers every year are wonderful,” she remarked.
Puratawn, directed by Suman Ghosh, marks a significant moment in Tagore's career, showcasing her return to the Bengali film industry. The film stars Rituparna Sengupta and Indraneil Sengupta in lead roles, promising a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences.
