At the trailer launch of Tere Ishk Mein, Kriti Sanon spoke with honesty, nostalgia and emotion as she opened up about the long journey that finally led her to be directed by Aanand L Rai, something she had been hoping for “for years.”
For Kriti, this film isn’t just another project—it’s the fulfilment of a long-held dream. She said, “This journey actually started years ago. I’ve met Aanand Sir so many times, and for years I kept telling him that I wanted to do a love story directed by him. It has always been on my wish list.”
“I love love stories, and I don’t know why it feels like love has reduced in the world and so have love stories. It’s my favourite genre. I was always craving to be directed by someone who reaches straight to the soul—whose love stories are never simple; they are as layered and complicated as life itself. There is love, but there is also pain… and fire.”
“One fine day, the opportunity finally came. The way Himanshu has written Mukti, and the way Aanand Sir sees her—I felt like this time, instead of being the front-bencher who finishes her homework and goes fully prepared, I should just surrender.This is probably the first time I didn’t prepare. I went in blank… like a raw page. And slowly, during the shoot, we found Mukti together. I discovered every colour while performing, and it has been such a beautiful experience. The story has many shades. Where Mukti begins and where she ends, she almost feels like two different people. The layers, the depth… it’s a dream for any actor to perform something like this.”
Tere Ishk Mein features Kriti Sanon in what appears to be one of her most complex roles—a character who transforms dramatically through the course of the story.With director Aanand L Rai known for portraying emotional chaos with realism, and writer Himanshu Sharma shaping nuanced characters, Mukti seems set to become one of Kriti’s most memorable performances.
