Stepping into a franchise led by stars like Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh is no small feat and Meezaan Jafri, who joins the cast of De De Pyaar De 2, knows it well. In the recently released trailer of the film, fans were quick to spot a nostalgic nod to a classic: Meezaan performing a version of Ajay Devgn’s legendary Phool Aur Kaante split stunt balancing on two cars. And while it may look seamless on screen, Meezaan revealed that the moment carried weight, pressure, and months of preparation.
“It was a huge responsibility,” Meezaan said, reflecting on recreating one of Bollywood’s most iconic hero entries. “I was just hoping I could do it right. I spent several months training for that full split, and even then, I couldn’t do it completely the way I wanted to. I just did as much as I could. It was truly an honour.”
The split stunt first made famous by Ajay Devgn in his 1991 debut has become symbolic of Devgn's larger-than-life screen presence. For Meezaan, performing a version of it wasn’t just a tribute, but a statement stepping into a film where he plays opposite Devgn, and making his presence known. The young actor, who is still carving out his place in the industry, approached the moment with both reverence and determination.
“This was my first time working with my father too,” Meezaan added warmly, referring to veteran actor and comedian Jaaved Jaaferi, who also stars in the film. “That was a lovely experience. There are so many things we’ve done in this film. It’s been a truly wonderful journey.”
De De Pyaar De 2, directed by Anshul Sharma, brings back the emotional chaos and comedy of its predecessor, but with fresh faces and flipped dynamics. Ajay Devgn returns as Ashish Mehra, now trying to navigate his relationship with the much-younger Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh), while dealing with the disapproval of her family especially her father, played by R. Madhavan. Meezaan’s character adds another spark to the story, potentially complicating the relationship web further though details remain under wraps.
