Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur recently weighed in on the ongoing debate about the role and responsibility of the media, particularly in light of a recent altercation between a reporter and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha during the IC814 press meet. Known for his insightful observations and deep understanding of the entertainment industry, Kapur offered a balanced perspective on the evolving landscape of media and its implications.

While promoting his upcoming film Binny And Family, Kapur was asked about the increasing aggression in entertainment media and whether it is veering off course. His response highlighted the integral role media plays in society, particularly within the realm of entertainment. “I can’t comment on media going wrong because it plays an integral and influential role in our lives, especially in the entertainment industry,” Kapur stated. “Media bears the crucial responsibility of reporting on societal matters, which differs significantly from the daily news we read about current events or global happenings. Just as a family consists of members with varying opinions, the media encompasses diverse perspectives that must be managed with care.”

Kapur’s comments come at a time when the boundaries between media, technology, and journalism are becoming increasingly blurred. He noted that advancements in science and technology have expanded the media's reach and complexity, making it both more accessible and more challenging. “Today, anyone can become a journalist, which makes the field more accessible. However, becoming a good journalist remains demanding. It requires tremendous effort to develop the impartiality necessary to report accurately and fairly,” he explained.

The actor also touched upon the inevitability of technological progress and its impact on media. “Despite these challenges, we cannot halt the progress of technology or the rise of artificial intelligence; it’s an inevitable part of our future,” Kapur remarked. He emphasized that while technology continues to advance, the onus remains on individuals to engage with these developments thoughtfully. “From a young age, we are taught by our parents to pursue good over bad. In the future, it will be up to each of us to define what we consider right or wrong. We must recognize that the media is expanding due to technological advancements,” he added.

Kapur also highlighted the growing interdependence between journalism, cinema, and technology, noting the essential role of editors in curating content from the vast array of technological inputs. “The role of an editor is crucial in curating content from this vast array of technological inputs, reflecting the human ability to make discerning choices,” he said.

In closing, Pankaj Kapur reinforced the notion that while technological progress is unstoppable, individuals have the power to make thoughtful decisions about how they interact with and utilize these advancements. “Ultimately, while we cannot stop technological progress, we do have the power to make thoughtful decisions about how we use and interact with these advancements,” Kapur concluded.

Kapur’s remarks provide a nuanced perspective on the current media landscape, underscoring the importance of responsibility and discernment in an era of rapid technological change.
