Netflix has officially released the trailer for Bet, a new English-language streaming series adapted from the wildly popular Japanese manga Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, created by Homura Kawamoto and Tôru Naomura. Set to premiere on May 15, 2025, the series promises to blend psychological thrills with high school drama, all set in a world where everything is wagered—and nothing is off-limits.
Bet follows the students of an elite international boarding school where academic grades take a backseat to one thing: gambling. In this secret underground system, power, popularity, and survival are determined by risky wagers and ruthless games of chance. But when Yumeko (played by Miku Martineau), a mysterious new transfer student, enters the scene with an unmatched gambling instinct and a hidden agenda, she quickly disrupts the school's cutthroat status quo. Her arrival draws the ire of the school’s all-powerful Student Council and sets off a high-stakes battle that goes far beyond chips and cards.
The series boasts a diverse ensemble cast including Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O'Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo, Laura Afelskie, Dorian Giordano, Emma Elle Paterson, and Ryan Sutherland. With themes of manipulation, power, and revenge, Bet looks to capture the gripping tension and surreal edge that made the original manga a cult sensation. The show is created and showrun by Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry, with direction from Barry, Jacquie Gould, Craig Wallace, and Joyce Wong, and writing from a multi-voice team led by Tabia Lau.
While fans of Kakegurui will recognize familiar plotlines and character dynamics, Bet reimagines the source material with a fresh Western twist and a sleek, suspenseful aesthetic.
