Filmmaker Anil Sharma along with actor Anupam Kher pour condolence for Radio Icon Ameen Sayani, who passed away last night.
Ameen Sayani, the iconic radio presenter of the popular show “Binaca Geet Mala”, passed away on Tuesday of a heart attack. He was 91. Ameen suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night after which his family rushed him to HN Reliance Hospital, Mumbai, where he breathed his last.
Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma took to his social media profile and wrote, “Oh v v sad to knw about sad demise of great personality of radio shree #ameensayani...ek samay inke bina film industry nahi chalti thi...Bianca geetamala most popular prog of radio...great person …we will miss him.. mere jeevan ka pahla 200 rs ka check mujhe ameen sayani saheb se mila tha…it’s highly sad moment for me n entire film industry n fans of mr Sayani...may his soul rest in peace...om shanti”
Veteran actor Anupam Kher shared a video post and wrote, “Brothers & Sisters! Today a musical thread of my childhood was broken! When we were young, the whole family was as eager to hear the voice of #AmeenSayani ji as that of the singers. Sometimes even more than the singers! #BinacaGeetMala used to work as a therapy for us. Born in 1932, Ameen Sayani came from a family where literature and language were of paramount significance. He began his stint with Radio Ceylon in 1951.
As a voiceover artiste, he holds a record for hosting and compering over 54,000 radio programs. He also hold a record in the Limca Book of Records for his contributions to approximately 19,000 jingles as a voiceover artiste.
