After nearly two decades, Bollywood fans are in for a high-voltage reunion as Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan team up once again for the gripping thriller Haiwaan, helmed by master storyteller Priyadarshan. Akshay dropped a video post announcing the start of the shoot with a chilling caption: “Hum sab hi hain thode se shaitaan… Koi upar se Saint, koi andar se Haiwaan :))” — setting the tone for what promises to be a twisted, high-stakes tale of morality, deception, and duality.
Based on the acclaimed Malayalam thriller Oppam, Haiwaan flips the typical hero-villain dynamic: Akshay Kumar steps into the shoes of the antagonist, while Saif Ali Khan plays a blind hero, marking a refreshing and risky role reversal. Their last on-screen outing was in Tashan (2008), and before that, the cult favorite Yeh Dillagi (1994). Now, in Haiwaan, they return as foes, not friends—and that’s what makes it thrilling.
Directed by Priyadarshan, known for his deft hand with both laugh riots (Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa) and nail-biting thrillers (Kanchivaram, Viraasat), this project blends psychological suspense with star-powered nostalgia. It's already being touted as a dark horse contender for 2026, with the potential to pull a Jolly LLB 3-style sleeper hit at the box office.
With a reported ₹150 crore budget, Haiwaan is being crafted for a large-scale cinematic experience. The casting shake-up, intense themes, and the star-director trio’s combined fan base set this up as one of the most-anticipated thrillers of 2026.
Let the "haiwaniyat" begin.
