Celebrated filmmaker Sukumar has added another prestigious feather to his cap, as he was honoured with the 'B N Reddy Film Award' at the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards. The accolade recognizes his outstanding contribution to Telugu cinema, celebrating a career built on bold storytelling, emotional depth, and genre-defining direction.
Production house Mythri Movie Makers, who’ve collaborated with Sukumar on some of his biggest successes, took to social media to congratulate the director.
“Hearty congratulations to our dearest Maverick director @aryasukku Garu for being honoured with the 'B N Reddy Film Award' at the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards. Many more accolades to come,” read the heartfelt tweet.
Sukumar made a sensational debut in 2004 with Arya, a romantic action drama that not only became a box office hit but also earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu and the Nandi Award for Best Screenplay Writer. Since then, he has continued to redefine Telugu cinema with a distinctive mix of intellect and intensity.
His filmography reads like a list of modern Telugu classics — from the stylish Arya 2 and the quirky 100% Love, to the psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine and the emotionally powerful Nannaku Prematho. Each film showcased a different facet of Sukumar’s directorial vision, earning him both critical acclaim and a massive fan following.
But it was Rangasthalam (2018) that marked a major turning point. The rustic period drama starring Ram Charan was not only a critical darling but also a box office juggernaut, becoming the third highest-grossing Telugu film at the time — behind only the Baahubali films.
Then came Pushpa: The Rise (2021), a cultural and commercial phenomenon that cemented Sukumar’s place among India’s most influential filmmakers. The Allu Arjun-starrer became the highest-grossing Indian film of 2021, blending mass appeal with raw storytelling. Its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024), surpassed expectations to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Receiving the B N Reddy Film Award is a full-circle moment for Sukumar, whose work has consistently pushed the boundaries of what mainstream cinema can achieve — both narratively and emotionally. Named after one of the pioneers of Telugu cinema, the award recognizes artists who have elevated the art form and inspired generations.
With many more stories yet to be told and a loyal audience waiting with anticipation, one thing is certain: Sukumar isn’t just making films — he’s shaping the future of Indian cinema.
