Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha and celebrated filmmaker Anees Bazmee were among the notable attendees at a special staging of Ek Mulaqat, the much-loved Hindi play starring Shekhar Suman and Geetika Tyagi. The performance was held as part of the recently launched reboot of the play, which first premiered in 2014 to widespread critical acclaim. Their presence added star power to an already significant cultural event, highlighting the continued relevance and emotional depth of the production.
Shekhar Suman, best known for his work in television and films, has long proven his theatrical prowess. In Ek Mulaqat, he takes on the layered role of legendary lyricist and poet Sahir Ludhianvi. The original version of the play featured celebrated actress Deepti Naval as Amrita Pritam, the iconic Punjabi novelist and poet. The narrative explores the complex and poetic romance between the two literary giants, masterfully directed by Saif Hyder Hasan.
In the newly rebooted version of the play, Geetika Tyagi steps into the role of Amrita Pritam. Her portrayal has added a fresh dynamic to the already evocative performance, while Shekhar Suman continues to deliver a deeply introspective and powerful portrayal of Sahir Ludhianvi. The chemistry between the leads and the lyrical, thoughtful script has once again struck a chord with audiences, reaffirming the timeless nature of this poignant love story.
Ek Mulaqat doesn’t just dramatize a romance; it pays homage to two of India’s most revered literary figures, giving life to their passions, conflicts, and creative spirits on stage. With support from respected figures like Shatrughan Sinha and Anees Bazmee, the play’s return has garnered renewed attention and praise, cementing its status as a must-watch for lovers of theatre, poetry, and timeless storytelling.
