Golf clubs out, nostalgia up! At this year’s Tudum event, Netflix finally unveiled the much-awaited official trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 — the long-rumored, now-real sequel to the cult classic 1996 sports comedy. Nearly 30 years after his original swing at glory, Adam Sandler is back as Happy Gilmore, the hockey-player-turned-golfer with a temper, a heart, and one heck of a drive.
Directed by Kyle Newacheck, the legacy sequel brings a mix of old favorites and fresh faces. Alongside Sandler, the film stars Julie Bowen, reprising her role as Virginia, and Christopher McDonald, hopefully returning as the infamously smug Shooter McGavin. New additions to the lineup include Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Margaret Qualley, Ben Stiller, Benny Safdie, NFL star Travis Kelce, and Nick Swardson, making this one of the wildest ensemble casts Sandler has wrangled yet.
The story picks up decades after Happy’s iconic Tour Championship win, catching up with him as he confronts aging, legacy, and the next generation of loudmouth golfers trying to take his spot. Expect big laughs, bigger drives, and maybe even a few sentimental putts as the golf legend navigates old rivalries, new chaos, and (of course) a ridiculous amount of heart.
Written by longtime Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy and Sandler himself, Happy Gilmore 2 promises a perfect blend of ‘90s nostalgia and modern comedy madness. The film is set to premiere globally on July 25th, 2025, exclusively on Netflix. So grab your golf glove (and maybe a helmet)—Happy’s back, and he's not here to play it safe.
