Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming limited series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, set to premiere on August 29. The series features a stellar cast, including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, and Anupam Tripathi. Created and written by Anubhav Sinha and Trishant Srivastava, the show promises a gripping portrayal of a real-life crisis.
The trailer, shared on Netflix India’s social media, highlights the intense and harrowing events of December 24, 1999, when Indian Airlines Flight IC 814 was hijacked. The flight, en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi, was diverted to multiple locations before eventually landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The series dramatizes the seven-day ordeal, showcasing the terror faced by 188 passengers and the desperate efforts by Indian officials to resolve the crisis.
In the trailer, Vijay Varma portrays the flight's pilot, setting the scene for the hijacking and the ensuing chaos. The visuals cut between the hijackers' threats and the frantic efforts of Indian authorities working to regain control of the situation.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is based on the true events of the hijacking and explores the themes of terror, crisis, and heroism. The six-episode series is produced by Matchbox Shots and Benaras Mediaworks, with story contributions from Adrien Levy and Trishant Srivastava.
