In a significant development, an FIR has been registered against actor and CPI (M) MLA Mukesh M in connection with serious allegations made by actress Minu Muneer. The Kerala Police confirmed the registration of the FIR on Thursday, following Muneer’s complaint, which also led to another FIR being filed against actor Jayasurya under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to the intent to outrage modesty.

The complaints from Muneer include allegations of both verbal and physical abuse by several prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry. Muneer has accused Mukesh M, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu of various forms of misconduct during their professional interactions. She detailed these accusations in a Facebook post, recounting disturbing incidents dating back to 2013.

According to Muneer, Jayasurya allegedly hugged her from behind and kissed her forcefully, while Idavela Babu made inappropriate sexual advances. She also reported troubling interactions with Maniyanpilla Raju, including uncomfortable suggestions about her hotel accommodation. Muneer has claimed that these experiences led her to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai.

The FIRs come amid heightened scrutiny of the Malayalam film industry, particularly following recent resignations from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) by director Ranjith and actor Siddique in response to separate allegations. The controversy has been exacerbated by the recent release of a redacted version of the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlights various cases of harassment and exploitation within the industry.

In response to the allegations, Mukesh M issued a press release denying the charges and asserting his innocence. He welcomed the ongoing investigations, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent inquiry. Mukesh also addressed past allegations from 2018, which he claimed were part of a political campaign against him. He refuted claims that Muneer sought financial assistance or attempted to blackmail him, suggesting that the current allegations are a continuation of previous attempts to tarnish his reputation.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced the formation of a special investigation team to thoroughly address the allegations, following public and media pressure. The team will aim to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the claims made by Muneer and others in the industry.

As the investigation unfolds, the case is likely to remain a focal point in discussions about harassment and misconduct in the Malayalam film industry, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency.
