Paramount+ has unveiled the spine-chilling first trailer for Vicious, a brand-new horror original from acclaimed filmmaker Bryan Bertino. Slated to premiere on October 10, 2025, the film marks Bertino’s terrifying return to his psychological horror roots — and he’s brought Dakota Fanning along for the ride.
The trailer introduces us to Polly (Fanning), a woman living in quiet solitude until her life takes a haunting turn. Late one night, an eerie knock at the door reveals a mysterious, disheveled visitor (played by the formidable Kathryn Hunter) bearing a strange Box and a cryptic message: "Put three things inside—something you need, something you hate, and something you love."
What starts as an unsettling ritual soon spirals into a living nightmare. The Box becomes a doorway into a warped realm of twisted time, broken memories, and creeping dread. Polly must make harrowing decisions as the world she knows bends under the weight of supernatural forces. Every object placed in the Box deepens her descent into madness — and exposes secrets she’s tried to bury.
Joining Fanning and Hunter is an impressive ensemble cast including Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, Devyn Nekoda, Klea Scott, and Emily Mitchell. Each character appears to play a key role in unraveling Polly’s fractured reality, as the trailer hints at a story that’s equal parts psychological thriller and supernatural descent.
Thematically, Vicious explores the emotional toll of grief, memory, and guilt — wrapped in a horror framework that's pure Bertino: intimate, relentless, and deeply unsettling. With echoes of Hereditary and The Babadook, this film seems poised to haunt audiences with both visual horror and emotional depth.
With its October 10th release date perfectly timed for the Halloween season, Vicious is shaping up to be one of this year’s most anticipated psychological horror drops. If the trailer’s nightmarish tension and slow-burning dread are anything to go by, this could be a modern genre classic in the making.
