Awards : Shruti Haasan is an Indian actress and singer who works in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil films. She is a recipient of several awards including two Filmfare Award South and three South Indian International Movie Awards, and one CineMAA Awards, Edison Awards and IIFA Utsavam each.

Shruti Haasan made her acting debut with the Hindi film Luck (2009). She made her Telugu debut with Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Tamil debut with 7aum Arivu both (2011), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South for both. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu for Race Gurram. Shruti Haasan won three SIIMA Award for Best Actress – Telugu for the films - Gabbar Singh, Race Gurram and Srimanthudu. She also has won the Best Introduced Music Director for Unnaipol Oruvan.

She has worked in films across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. The gorgeous actress who made her debut on the silver screen with Hey Ram in 2000 has appeared in several commercially and critically successful films like 7aum Arivu (2011), Yevadu (2014), Puli (2015) and Welcome Back (2015) and along the way picked up several awards including three Filmfare Awards, SIIMA Award, CineMAA Award and Asiavision Award. Apart from acting, Shruti takes a keen interest in music and has sung several songs in her movies while also producing her own music albums.

Early Life
Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Shruti Haasan is the daughter of superstar actor Kamal Haasan and yesteryear popular actress, Sarika Thakur. The actress` father is a Tamil Iyengar while her mother has a half Marathi and half Rajput descent. Shruti has a younger sister named Akshara Haasan who has worked as an assistant director to several noted directors like Rahul Dholakia and Mani Ratnam. The actress attended Abacus Montessori School in Chennai and moved to Mumbai to pursue her degree in Psychology at St. Andrews College. She had a keen interest in music and cinema from a very early age and went to California, USA to learn music at the Musicians Institute. She eventually returned to Chennai to pursue a full-time career in acting. Before Shruti Haasan made her foray in the film industry, she had her own band, an alternative rock band named The Extramentals.

Movie Career
As an Actress
Shruti Haasan made her debut on the silver screen with a cameo in the 2000 movie, Hey Ram, an Indian period drama film that released in Tamil and Hindi. The film starring Kamal Haasan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Hema Malini, Sarika, Nassar, Abbas and Atul Kulkarni was directed, written and produced by Kamal Haasan. Following her debut, the actress kept herself away from acting until 2009 when she made her debut as a lead actor in the Bollywood action thriller film Luck directed by Soham Shah. The film, despite having an ensemble cast including Imran Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Sanjay Dutt, and Danny Denzongpa, got negative reviews and emerged as a box office failure.

The actress got a major breakthrough in her career as she made her foray in the South Indian film industry with Anganaga O Dheerudu, a Telugu fantasy adventure film directed by Prakash Kovelamudi. Co-starring Siddharth and Lakshmi Manchu, it follows the journey of a nine-year-old-girl with special powers and Yodha, her fierce bodyguard. The film got positive reviews and for her brilliant performance, Shruti won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut - South. In the same year, she appeared in the Madhur Bhandarkar directorial, Hindi romantic comedy film Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji alongside Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya, Tisca Chopra and Shazahn Padamsee. The film received positive reviews and grossed more than 282 crore INR within first three weeks of its release. Shruti continued her good run with yet another scintillating performance in the Tamil science fiction film 7aum Arivu. The film,starring Suriya Sivakumar, received mixed critical reviews but emerged as a massive box office hit and Shruti won a nomination at the Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Tamil.

The following year, debutante director, Aishwarya Dhanush cast Shruti Haasan in the Tamil romantic psychological thriller film 3 alongside Dhanush and Sivakharthikeyan. It became immensely popular among the audience for its song, `Why this Kolaveri di` but fell short of expectations and opened to mixed critical reviews. But Shruti won appreciation from both critics and the audience. Shruti`s other film of the year was Gabbar Singh, a Telugu action film where she starred alongside the superstar of Telugu cinema, Pawan Kalyan. The film, a remake of the superhit Bollywood film Dabangg, became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of all time; the box office collection grossing more than 200 crore INR.

In 2013, the actress had a mixed year. Whilst one of her Hindi films, Ramaiya Vastavaiya co-starring debutant actor Girish Kumar, bombed at the box office, her other Bollywood film D-Day directed by Nikhil Advani received highly positive reviews. The actress also had contrasting results with her two Telugu films of the year. Whilst Balupu, an action comedy film co-starring Ravi Teja and Anjali received positive reviews from both critics and the audience, Ramayya Vasthavayya, a film directed by Harish Shankar bombed at the box office. Shruti Haasan started 2014 with the blockbuster Telugu film Yevadu. The film directed by Vamsi Paidipally and co-starring Ram Charan and Amy Jackson grossed more than 45 crore INR. Following the huge success of Yevadu, the actress next starred in the Telugu action comedy film Race Gurram alongside Allu Arjun, Ravi Kishan, and Prakash Raj. The film released in 1150 theaters worldwide and went to become one of the top-grossing Telugu films of all time. Shruti for his outstanding performance in the film won the SIIMA Award as well as the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The actress ended the year on a high as her solitary Tamil of the year Poojai co-starring Vishal, Sathyaraj and Mukesh Tiwari got positive reviews.

The actress had a busy year in 2015 as she shuffled between acting in Bollywood and South Indian films. In her first Bollywood release of the year, Shruti paired with Akshay Kumar for Gabbar Is Back directed by Krish. The film, which was the remake of the 2002 Tamil film Ramanaa got mixed critical reviews but emerged to be a hit at the box office. Her other Bollywood film of the year was the Anees Bazmee directed action comedy film Welcome Back. The film featuring and an ensemble cast including John Abraham, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Shiney Ahuja and Paresh Rawal was the second installment of the Welcome film series. The film got mostly positive reviews and emerged to be a box office hit. The actress won laurels for her brilliant role in the Telugu film Srimanthudu, which released in August 2015. The film, which went on to gross more than 200 crore INR at the box office won Shruti her the SIIMA Best Actress - Telugu Award.

In 2016, the actress had a great start as her first release of the year, a Hindi action thriller film Rocky Handsome received positive reviews from the critics. Bollywood Hungama wrote "On the whole, Rocky Handsome is for people who like action films. Despite the film having a simple plot, it has been garnished with engrossing drama and action stunningly. One can find the right mix of tension, action, emotion under one roof. A well-made action thriller." After the success of Rocky Handsome, the actress next shared the screen with Naga Chaitanya, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran in the coming-of-age romantic drama Premam. Upon release, the film garnered mixed to positive reviews.

In her first film of 2017, the actress collaborated with director Hari for the Tamil-language action-masala Singam 3, which is third instalment in the Singam film franchise. The film co-starring Suriya Sivakumar, and Anushka Shetty received mixed reviews but it emerged to be a box office hit. Her other films of the year includes Katamarayadu, a Telugu-language film directed by Kishore Kumar Pardasany and Sabaash Naidu, a trilingual film directed by Kamal Haasan.

In 2019, Shruti made her American TV debut with a recurring role in action drama series Treadstone. After a three year hiatus from Indian screens, Shruti appeared in a short film Devi, crime drama feature film Yaara and anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai in 2020. Her 2021 releases include Krack and Vakeel Saab. Her other releases include Laabam, Salaar and Pitta Kathalu.

As a Singer
Shruti Haasan was interested in music from a very early age; she sang her first song when she was just six years old. She sang in Kamal Haasan starrer movie, Thevar Magan. She made her singing debut in the Hindi film Chachi 420 (1997). Three years later, the actress sang both the Hindi and the Tamil version of the title theme, Rama Rama for Hey Ram. The song, composed by Ilayaraaja, won critical accolades.

In 2002, Shruti sang for film En Mana Vaanil. The actress is also noted for her singing in the Gautham Menon directed film Vaaranam Aayiram that released in 2008. Later, Shruti sang the tiled track in her Bollywood debut film, Luck. In 2010, she collaborated with American musician, Dave Kushner for the film Hisss; while Kushner composed music for the songs, Shruti wrote the lyrics and sang the song.
