Awards : Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian actress who has received several awards and nominations including two National Film Award, five Filmfare Awards, eight Producers Guild Film Awards, eight Screen Awards, six IIFA Awards, and two People's Choice Awards. In 2000, she participated in the Femina Miss India contest, where she finished second, winning the Femina Miss India World title. She then entered the Miss World pageant and was crowned Miss World 2000, becoming the fifth Indian to win the contest. Priyanka Chopra Jonas made her Bollywood film debut with a supporting role in the 2003 spy thriller The Hero, which earned her the Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actress. The same year, her performance in the romantic musical Andaaz won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the same ceremony. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian film and TV actress, singer, model and social worker who rose to fame when she won the Miss World crown in 2000. On the back of her international recognition, Priyanka Chopra got the attention of the Bollywood fraternity and she turned her sights on pursuing a career in acting. The actress made her acting debut with a Tamil film titled Thamizhan opposite superstar Vijay. She subsequently made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 with Anil Sharma`s The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. Since her debut, the actress has appeared in several hit movies like Aitraaz (2004), Fashion (2008), Kaminey (2009), Barfi! (2012), and Bajirao Mastani (2015) and along the way has picked up numerous awards including a National Award for Best Actress.

EARLY LIFE

Priyanka was born on 18th July 1982 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India to Indian Army doctors, Ashok Chopra and Madhu Chopra. Owing to her father`s work in the Army, Priyanka during her childhood lived in various places across India. As a kid, Priyanka attended La Martinciiere Girls` School in Lucknow but at the age of 13, she moved to the United States to live with her aunt. There also, she kept changing schools as her aunt`s family had a transferable job. Three years after staying in the USA, Priyanka moved back to India and completed her schooling from Army Public School, Bareilly. The former Miss World shares a very close bond with her family, especially her father, who passed away in June 2013. Priyanka has a younger sibling named Siddharth and the actress Parineeti Chopra is her cousin.

PERSONAL LIFE

Priyanka was rumoured to be romantically involved with her Kaminey co-star, Shahid Kapoor. The duo was spotted together at many events but neither of them confirmed the relationship. She was also rumoured to be in an alleged relationship with her Love Story 2050 co-star, Harman Baweja.

MOVIE CAREER

The beautiful actress started her acting career with the 2002 political drama, Thamizhan, a Tamil language film directed by A. Majith. She was cast in the lead role alongside Vijay and the movie was declared a hit at the box-office. The following year, Priyanka made her Bollywood debut with Anil Sharma`s The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, sharing the screen with co-stars Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. While the film fared averagely at the box office, Priyanka was appreciated for her role and she won her first Stardust Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her second film for the year was Raj Kanwar`s Andaaz. The film was a box-office success and Priyanka was seen sharing the screen with actors Akshay Kumar and debutante Lara Dutta. The turning point in her career came when she starred in Madhur Bhandarkar`s 2008 movie Fashion, which depicted the lives of the models in the fashion industry. Priyanka`s performance as an aspiring model received unanimous appreciation from the critics and the audience; she went on to win the National Award for her performance. In 2009, she appeared in Vishal Bhardwaj`s thriller Kaminey alongside Shahid Kapoor. The film was a critical and commercial success grossing 71 crores INR worldwide. The actress then appeared in the Ashutosh Gowariker`s What`s Your Raashee? and etched her name in the Guinness World Record books for being the first film actress to portray 12 distinct characters in one film. Priyanka`s next noteworthy performance came in 2012 as she appeared in Anurag Basu`s Barfi! alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D`Cruz. Her role as the physically disabled and autistic woman, Jhilmil Chatterjee won her critical acclaim. The film too was a critical and commercial hit. Priyanka once again proved why she is rated as one of the top actresses with a stellar performance as Kashibai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Bajirao Mastani that released in 2015. With Ranveer Singh as Bajirao and Deepika Padukone as Mastani, the film was a blockbuster hit at the box office and earned many awards. In 2015, Priyanka was also seen in Zoya Akhtar`s comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do. With an ensemble cast including Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar and Anushka Sharma, the film was well appreciated by the critics and was a commercial success. The actor had a single release in 2016, Jai Gangajal directed by Prakash Jha. The movie opened to average reviews and failed at the box-office. The actress 2017 releases include the Hollywood film, Baywatch, which also features Dwayne Johnson, Zac Effron, Pamela Anderson and Alexandra Daddario. TV CAREER

Priyanka Chopra made her Hollywood debut on television by starring in the American crime drama Quantico. She is the first South Asian woman to star as the protagonist is an American drama series. In the ABC studio production, she plays the role of an FBI recruit Alex Parrish. She received appreciation for her performance and was awarded the People`s Choice Award for- Favorite Actress in a New TV Series becoming the first South Asian actress to receive a People`s Choice Award. She has also hosted the third season of the reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2008 replacing Akshay Kumar, the former host of the show. She received the Indian Telly Award for Most Impactful Debut on Television for the same.

MUSIC CAREER

Being inspired by her father, Priyanka started her training in singing since she was a kid. In her early years in Bollywood, she recorded for various films like Thamizhan but her big break came when she was signed by Creatives Artist Agency, Los Angeles in 2012. Following this, she released her first single, `In My City` featuring rapper will.i.am. The song was a success in India but failed to reach its hype in the international market. The following year she released her second single `Exotic,` featuring American rapper Pitbull. The song received an average response by the audience in India as well as overseas.
