Arunachal Pradesh’s celebrated folk singer David Angu has brought pride to India by winning the prestigious India International Influencer Award (IIIA) in Dubai. The award was presented by Bollywood star Nora Fatehi, who not only felicitated David on stage but also praised him for his “wonderful singing,” earning a warm response from the audience.
Known for seamlessly blending tradition with modernity, David has dedicated his career to preserving and promoting the folk heritage of Arunachal Pradesh. As a singer, guitarist, composer, and producer, his work has introduced the region’s unique sounds to audiences both in India and abroad.
His recognition in Dubai highlights the growing global appreciation for Indian tribal and folk music, which has increasingly been showcased at international festivals in Bangkok, Jakarta, and Japan. David himself has performed overseas, presenting songs rooted in folklore, harvest rituals, and local traditions that resonate universally.
Joining the celebrations, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu praised David’s achievement on social media, stating:
“Folk music is the soul of a community, carrying its stories, traditions, and identity across generations. David Angu, with his mesmerizing voice, guitar, and compositions, has brought Arunachal’s rich folk heritage to the world stage. Earlier this year, David also performed at the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in India, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflecting the government’s commitment to promoting grassroots artists nationally and internationally.
