Peacock is set to debut an ambitious new series that promises to transport viewers into the heart of Ancient Rome's gladiatorial spectacles with "Those About To Die". Inspired by the iconic Roman phrase "Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant" (Hail, Emperor, those who are about to die salute you), the series is poised to deliver a thrilling saga of power, politics, and the brutal arena of gladiatorial combat.
Set against the backdrop of Ancient Rome, "Those About To Die" dives deep into the underbelly of the gladiatorial world, where entertainment means blood and spectacle reigns supreme. The series delves into the lives of gladiators and the machinations of those who control the games, revealing a side of Roman history rarely explored on screen.
Leading the ensemble cast is the legendary Anthony Hopkins, portraying the Roman Emperor Vespasian. The series also features a diverse array of characters played by Dimitri Leonidas, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins-Court, Moe Hashim, David Wurawa, Tom Hughes, Lara Wolf, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, and Angeliqa Devi. This stellar lineup promises to bring depth and authenticity to the multifaceted world of "Those About To Die".
Created and developed by Robert Rodat, known for his work on "Falling Skies", and adapted from the classic novel by Daniel P. Mannix, the series is helmed by a team of seasoned directors including Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner. Shot on location at the historic Cinecittà studio in Rome, the production aims to capture the grandeur and grit of Ancient Rome with cinematic flair.
The series is set to debut on Peacock starting July 18th, 2024.
