The highly anticipated courtroom drama Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar, has officially received censor clearance across multiple territories, paving the way for its release on November 7, 2025. Directed by Suparn S. Varma, the film is inspired by the landmark 1985 Shah Bano Supreme Court judgment on Muslim women’s maintenance rights and promises a compelling exploration of justice and societal debates.

In India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted Haq a UA 13+ rating on October 28, 2025, allowing audiences aged 13 and above to watch the film without any cuts. Internationally, the movie has been certified PG in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, while the UAE has issued a PG15 rating, ensuring a broad global release.

The announcement comes amid heightened attention, following legal notices from Shah Bano’s family claiming potential privacy breaches and factual inaccuracies in the film. Despite the controversies, the clearances signal that the film is ready for public viewing, with Junglee Pictures, Baweja Studios, and Insomnia Films backing the production.

Haq explores sensitive and important themes rooted in Indian legal history, weaving a narrative that reflects on women’s rights, societal pressures, and the judicial system. With strong performances from Hashmi and Gautam Dhar, the courtroom drama is expected to spark conversations while drawing audiences to theaters.
