If you thought the Metro... In Dino trailer launch was going to be a classy, understated affair, think again. What began as a discussion about modern love quickly turned into a masterclass in how to absolutely steal the show—thanks to none other than filmmaker Anurag Basu, who dropped the most unexpectedly hilarious definition of a "situationship" we've heard all year.
It all started when someone threw a curveball at Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor, Aditya Roy Kapur, asking if he’s ever been in a situationship. The poor guy looked like he’d just been asked to explain quantum physics. “What is a situationship? So, it’s not a relationship, and it’s not a friendship?” he asked, utterly baffled and refreshingly honest.
But then came the moment of pure gold. Enter: Anurag Basu, the man with the storytelling genius of Barfi! and the comedic timing of a stand-up veteran. With zero hesitation and full Bengali swag, Basu chimed in: “It’s like hot French fries… at first it’s crunchy, then it turns soggy.”
Mic. Drop.
The audience exploded into laughter, the cast cracked up on stage, and somewhere in the background, Pankaj Tripathi was probably blessing the metaphor with a subtle nod of approval. Honestly, never has the tragic truth of situationships been described so beautifully and deliciously. Crunchy at first—fun, hot, exciting—and then? A soggy mess of mixed signals and unanswered texts. Bravo, Basu da.
Metro... In Dino, a spiritual sequel to Life In A… Metro, promises four tales of contemporary love and confusion in the big city. And judging by the trailer—and this press conference—it’s going to serve equal parts heart, heartbreak, and high-quality hilarity.
One thing’s for sure: if the film is even half as entertaining as Basu’s take on modern dating, we’re in for a treat. Soggy or not, we’ll take those fries.
