Amazon Prime Video has released the official trailer for Ballard, a gripping detective series set in Los Angeles and inspired by the bestselling author Michael Connelly’s work. Unlike previous adaptations centered on Titus Welliver’s iconic character Harry Bosch, this time the spotlight shifts to Detective Renée Ballard, portrayed by Maggie Q. The series promises a fresh perspective on Connelly’s universe, with Ballard leading the charge.
Ballard follows Detective Renée Ballard as she heads the LAPD’s new cold-case unit — a resource-strapped, all-volunteer team tasked with tackling the city’s most forgotten cases. Despite the challenges of limited funding and an overwhelming caseload, Ballard approaches her investigations with empathy and unwavering determination. As she delves deeper, she uncovers a dangerous conspiracy and calls upon her retired ally Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, for assistance in navigating the threats to her unit and life.
Created and written by Kendall Sherwood, with showrunning duties shared by Sherwood and Michael Alaimo, the series is adapted from Connelly’s celebrated Harry Bosch book series. The talented cast also includes John Carroll Lynch, Rebecca Field, Michael Mosley, Amy Hill, Victoria Moroles, Courtney Taylor, Hector Hugo, Noah Bean, Michael Cassidy, and others, bringing depth and complexity to this new chapter in the Bosch universe.
Directed by Jet Wilkinson, Sarah Boyd, Tori Garrett, and Jon Huertas, Ballard is set to premiere on July 9, 2025, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Fans of crime thrillers and Michael Connelly’s storytelling will have much to look forward to in this fresh take on cold-case investigations in the City of Angels.
