If you thought “first copy” only meant piracy, think again! Amazon MX Player just unveiled the trailer for First Copy, a fresh and razor-sharp Hindi original series that promises to blend nostalgia, humor, and a slice of Mumbai’s shadowy 1990s video piracy world — with a 100% original twist.
Starring the multi-talented Munawar Faruqui in his acting debut (yes, the Big Boss 17 winner is stepping up from the stage to the screen), First Copy dives headfirst into the chaotic underbelly of Mumbai’s piracy scene — a lesser-known, but hugely impactful era that, according to a 2006 MPAA report, cost the global film industry a staggering $2.5 billion by 2005. And yet, as the show cheekily proclaims: “Naam First Copy hai, par yeh show 100% original hai” — a tagline that perfectly captures the irony where pirated content once inspired new waves of creativity, as supported by cultural economics research.
The trailer itself is a rollercoaster: from Munawar’s charismatic antics to the intriguing supporting cast featuring Ashi Singh, Gulshan Grover, and Krystle Dzousa, it paints a vivid picture of a wild, rule-breaking Mumbai full of ambition, hustle, and plenty of laughs.
