Alpha was originally set to hit theatres on 17 April 2026, but the makers have now decided to move the film to a new date to avoid a high-profile box-office clash with Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan.
The development was shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who broke the news on social media, writing:**#BreakingNews…‘ALPHA’ AVOIDS CLASH WITH ‘BATTLE OF GALWAN’ – YRF TO DECIDE ON NEW DATE… #AdityaChopra steps aside for #SalmanKhan, moving #Alpha from its earlier announced release date of 17 April 2026 to avoid a direct clash with #BattleOfGalwan. YRF had locked 17 April 2026 for Alpha, but the makers will now announce a new release date after assessing the theatrical release calendar over the next couple of months.”
The move signals a strategic decision by Yash Raj Films, choosing long-term box-office potential over a high-stakes face-off between two major projects backed by powerful banners.
Alpha marks a significant addition to the YRF Spy Universe, and is one of the most anticipated films from the banner. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film places two formidable female agents at its centre, promising a slick, action-packed espionage thriller. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles, Alpha follows their characters as they take on dangerous missions in a world driven by secrets, surveillance, and shifting loyalties. With daring stunts, high-risk operations, and unexpected twists, the film aims to bring a fresh dynamic to the spy genre. Bobby Deol also features in a key role, adding further intrigue to the narrative. Produced by Yash Raj Films, Alpha continues the studio’s expansion of its interconnected spy franchise, while also spotlighting female-led action at a grand scale.
On the other side of the avoided clash is Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan, a film rooted in real-life events. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the movie is based on the Galwan Valley incident of June 15, 2020, when Indian soldiers confronted Chinese troops in one of the most intense military standoffs in recent history. The film depicts how 200 Indian soldiers stood their ground against a force of 1,200 Chinese PLA troops, highlighting bravery, resilience, and sacrifice under extreme conditions. Alongside Salman Khan, the film stars Chitrangda Singh and Abhilash Chaudhary, with the story written by Shiv Aroor, Chintan Gandhi, and Suresh Nair. Given its patriotic theme and Salman Khan’s mass appeal, Battle of Galwan is expected to be a major theatrical event.
By choosing to move Alpha, YRF has ensured that both films get clear breathing space at the box office, allowing audiences to fully engage with two very different cinematic experiences — one rooted in real-life heroism, the other in stylised spy action. The new release date for Alpha is expected to be announced after reviewing the theatrical calendar over the coming months, keeping anticipation high for what remains one of 2026’s most awaited spy thrillers. For now, Alpha may have stepped aside — but its arrival is still set to make a powerful impact when the timing is right.
