Actor Abhishek Bachchan, who essays the role of Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosale in Raja Shivaji, believes the upcoming period drama goes far beyond conventional storytelling. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai, the actor described the project as an emotional experience rather than just a cinematic venture.

The grand launch event saw the presence of a stellar lineup including Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh, and Riteish Deshmukh, reflecting the scale and significance of the film.

Talking about joining the project and his reaction to the trailer, Abhishek said, "Thank you very much, Ritesh. This is truly goosebump-inducing; it’s fantastic. From the very first moment I saw the trailer—congratulations to Jyoti, to Ritesh, and to Vahini—for making such a wonderful film. It is a matter of great pride for me to be a part of this movie. As Sanju Sir mentioned, he is like a younger brother to us. And all he has to do is ask, and we will all show up; that is a great testament to the kind of person he is and what he means to all of us."

"Furthermore, to be part of a film that holds a deeper significance—something beyond just being a movie—is truly special. I believe the film that Ritesh, Jeet, and Jyoti have created is far more than just a film; it is an emotion. Consequently, I don't think anyone involved even hesitated or gave it a second thought; they simply wanted to be a part of it—and that was exactly how I felt as well. It is a great honor to portray such a wonderful, magnificent character, and to play a role in telling this story alongside Ritesh is a source of immense pride for me. To have the opportunity to do all of this within the context of a Marathi film is simply unbelievable" added Abhishek.

Directed and co-written by Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji is based on the life of Shivaji, the legendary warrior king and founder of the Maratha Empire. The film brings together history, emotion, and scale, aiming to present a powerful retelling of an iconic legacy.

Produced by Genelia Deshmukh and Jyoti Deshpande, the film is being made simultaneously in Marathi and Hindi, reflecting its ambition to reach audiences across regions.

With Abhishek Bachchan calling it “an emotion” and the strong ensemble backing it, Raja Shivaji is shaping up to be more than just a period drama—it promises to be a cinematic tribute rooted in pride and storytelling. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, and is already building anticipation among audiences eager to witness this grand historical saga unfold on the big screen.
