Sword fights? Check. Daddy-daughter drama? Check. France in the 1500s, cloaked in mystery and blood-soaked vengeance? Double check. The trailer for Nero the Assassin has arrived — and it’s got enough intensity to slice through steel. Or at least your weekend plans.
Pio Marmaï stars as Néro, a cold-blooded assassin whose moral compass seems… missing in action. That is, until his long-lost daughter Perla (played by Alice Isaaz) shows up, dropped into his life like a dagger in the dark. What follows is part historical thriller, part fantasy road trip, and part “Can this emotionally unavailable murder-dad learn to love?”journey. Add in a cursed destiny, sinister enemies, and an eclectic squad of misfits, and you've got the recipe for chaos — and probably a few tragic deaths.
The cast is a who's who of French talent: Olivier Gourmet, Louis-Do de Lencquesaing, Camille Razat, and Yann Gaelbring gravitas and grit to the gritty period setting. Not to mention the rising stars like Lili-Rose Carlier Taboury and Max Baissette de Malglaive, who clearly aren’t here just to be cannon fodder (though let’s be honest — someone’s losing a limb by episode three).
Created by Jean-Patrick Benes, Martin Douaire, and Allan Mauduit, this dark tale promises a cocktail of sharp dialogue, sharper weapons, and emotional stakes that cut deeper than a poisoned dagger. The trailer teases haunting landscapes, supernatural undertones, and a twisted power struggle that could reshape the future of Europe — assuming Néro doesn’t screw it all up first.
Premiering October 8, Nero the Assassin is coming in hot — and likely covered in blood. Don’t expect a history lesson. Expect heartbreak, swordplay, and a man with everything to lose... learning to fight for something other than himself.
