Actress Aditi Bhatia, who plays Divya in The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond, opened up about her experience joining the sequel during a recent interview. Speaking candidly, she said, “This film weaves together three distinct storylines; however, I was initially briefed only on my specific narrative arc. Regarding the other two stories, I received only a very brief summary—perhaps a line or two—so when I finally watched the film myself, I experienced it through the eyes of an audience member, just like anyone else. I would simply like to add that, as soon as I read the script, I—as a young woman—felt deeply moved; the premise was incredibly poignant and tragic. Secondly, as an actor, the role offered me the opportunity to explore and portray the entire spectrum of human emotion and experience. Consequently, for me, moving forward with the project was an absolute no-brainer. As for seeking external advice or counsel, I felt that my gut instinct was perfectly aligned with the project, so I simply went ahead with it.”
Helmed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond is a sequel to the 2023 film The Kerala Story. The film stars Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia, and Aishwarya Ojha as three women who become victims of an abusive plot after marrying outside their religion. The narrative explores themes of love, faith, and resilience against societal pressures.
On what motivated her to come on board, Aditi added, “I think when this movie first came to me, my only thought after reading the story was that I simply wanted to get on set and perform this character. I didn't dwell much on the commercial numbers the film might achieve or any of those aspects; however, naturally, every actor craves validation. So, it feels wonderful when you—the audience—examine my work in such minute detail and acknowledge my efforts. I am deeply grateful, and I feel that every reason I had for doing this film has proven entirely worthwhile.”
Addressing the legal and political debates that arose following the release of the teaser and trailer, she remarked, “It is understandable—given the sensitive nature of the subject matter and the specific promos and trailers that were released—that some people might have initially perceived the film's objective as being to incite hatred. However, that was absolutely not the case. I believe people's stance shifted once they watched the film and returned to discuss it with others. In a way, I view this as a form of organic praise emerging directly from the audience—and that is truly the most authentic form of appreciation. As you noted, we didn't engage in extensive promotional campaigns; therefore, all the love and support we are currently receiving is purely the result of word-of-mouth—a momentum the film has generated entirely on its own merit. So, that is simply what I would like to say. As you yourself mentioned in an interview—and as we also observed—your character was truly multifaceted; it encompassed everything. Whether she was a free-spirited young woman or someone with deeply sensitive facets, the character was incredibly diverse.”
With Aditi Bhatia’s heartfelt performance, The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond has resonated with audiences, proving that her decision to trust her instincts and commit to the role has paid off, both creatively and emotionally.
