If there’s one thing fans love, it’s a cryptic tease that sparks big imagination—and Varanasi just delivered exactly that. The film’s official handle dropped a short but striking video with a simple promise: audiences will finally see Mahesh Babu on the big screen by Rama Navami next year. And just like that, the hype machine is fully in motion.

The 14-second clip doesn’t reveal much—but that’s precisely the point. It leans into mystery with flame-lit visuals, silhouettes of bow-wielding figures, and a dramatic mountainous backdrop. The repeated “Happy Ram Navami” text adds a spiritual undertone, while the imagery subtly taps into Ramayana-like aesthetics without confirming anything outright. It’s atmospheric, intriguing, and designed to get fans talking.

And talk they are. Social media reactions have been flooded with festive greetings, fan theories, and rising excitement. Much of that anticipation comes from the name behind the project—S. S. Rajamouli. After redefining scale with his previous blockbusters, expectations from this film are sky-high, and every tiny update feels like an event in itself.

What makes Varanasi even more fascinating is its ambitious storyline. The film reportedly follows Rudhra, played by Mahesh Babu, as the ancient city faces a catastrophic asteroid threat. It’s a blend of mythology, science fiction, and global adventure—spanning timelines and continents. That combination alone makes it one of the most unique concepts to come out of Indian cinema in recent years.
Joining the cast are Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, adding further star power and depth. Behind the scenes, the film boasts music by M. M. Keeravani, whose collaborations with Rajamouli have already proven iconic.

But it’s not just the story or the cast—Varanasi is pushing technical boundaries too. It’s among the first Indian films to shoot in Antarctica and is being crafted in the rare 1.43:1 IMAX format, promising a truly immersive experience. With a reported budget of ₹1,400 crore, the film is clearly aiming to redefine scale and spectacle in Indian filmmaking.

Scheduled for release on April 7, 2027, around the festival of Ugadi, the film is strategically aligning itself with culturally significant dates. And now, with a major reveal promised around Rama Navami, the makers are carefully building momentum through symbolism and timing.

For now, the teaser does what it’s supposed to—raise curiosity without giving away answers. Who is Rudhra? How does mythology connect with an asteroid crisis? And what exactly is Rajamouli planning this time? One thing is certain—Varanasi isn’t just aiming to be a film. It’s aiming to be an experience.
