A disturbing incident occurred during a press conference for Pushpa 2 in Mumbai, where senior female journalist Vibha Kaul Bhat was assaulted by actor Allu Arjun's manager. The event, attended by Allu Arjun and co-star Rashmika Mandanna, has sparked outrage, particularly as no apology or action was taken by those present, including prominent producer Bhushan Kumar.
Vibha, a seasoned journalist with over 20 years of experience, was covering the event live via her mobile phone, which is a common practice during press conferences. She was positioned in the designated senior journalist area, with no objections from Allu Arjun's bodyguard. However, things took a turn when an individual, later identified as Allu Arjun’s manager, suddenly approached her, tried to snatch her phone, and shouted at her to stop filming.
"I didn’t want to create a scene because I know how much effort goes into making a film, and everyone is there to celebrate that," Vibha explained. "But this man kept pushing, and when I asked him to identify himself, he told me he was Allu Arjun’s manager. Then he snatched my phone and threw it on the ground, all of it happening live on my channel."
Despite feeling humiliated, Vibha refrained from reacting aggressively. Instead, she wrote a note to Allu Arjun, pointing out his manager's unprofessional behavior and requesting that he be held accountable. “I told him, ‘Your manager needs to behave with senior female journalists like me,’” she said. The note also included her contact details, but no response or apology was offered by the actor or producer Bhushan Kumar, who was also present at the event.
In her social media post, Vibha expressed her shock at the lack of respect shown to her as a female journalist. "This is not just about me; it’s about how female journalists are treated in this industry," she said. "You can’t insult a journalist and expect it to go unnoticed."
The incident has sparked widespread criticism, highlighting ongoing concerns about the treatment of journalists—particularly women—at press events. While Vibha expressed that she has no ill-will toward anyone involved, she made it clear that such behavior will not be tolerated in the future.
The assault on Vibha Kaul Bhat is a stark reminder of the challenges journalists face, and the industry must take responsibility for ensuring that all press events are conducted with respect and professionalism.
