The last season of Cobra Kai has begun at a measured pace, dividing its story into three parts of five episodes each to ensure a proper conclusion for its characters. While this structure allows for depth, it also risks dragging out certain segments unnecessarily. Part 1, though featuring standout moments, is hindered by its slower pacing.

Following the intense season 5 finale, Cobra Kai faces the challenge of building tension and preparing characters for the upcoming Sekai Taikai tournament. Part 1 shoulders much of this burden, primarily serving as a bridge between seasons and consequently feeling somewhat like filler. While there are notable developments, the initial five episodes of Cobra Kai's final season lack the fiery spark seen in previous installments.

Despite the slower pace and fewer story developments in part 1, Cobra Kai's strengths shine through. Johnny and Daniel have largely reconciled and are navigating a working relationship, yet face challenges with communication breakdowns. This dynamic extends to their students, who grapple with internal rivalries and the need to unite. Season 6 effectively utilizes this tension to propel the narrative forward without stagnation, ensuring the series moves ahead without regressing.

Transitioning characters from stability to stress and anxiety is crucial, and part 1 accomplishes this effectively. However, the process feels prolonged, possibly needing only one or two episodes. While the achievements are solid, the season lacks the intense stakes and high tension characteristic of its predecessors.

Cobra Kai excels when the characters are under pressure, facing conflicts with a menacing villain who poses real threats to both dojos and their safety. While previous seasons intensified with the introduction of antagonists like Kreese or Silver, part 1 of the final season does not establish new villains prominently. Instead, it centers on how characters adapt to Silver's imprisonment and the merger of Eagle Fang and Miyagi-Do dojos.

Season 6 part 1 of Cobra Kai sets the stage for the remaining chapters but struggles to maintain tension and drama. While the actors deliver strong performances and the storyline progresses logically, the pacing feels drawn out for the few points it emphasizes. The standout moment arrives in episode 5 with a revealing twist, ending on a compelling cliffhanger that promises excitement for the rest of the season.

However, this high point only underscores the lackluster nature of the preceding episodes in part 1. Despite a shaky start, expectations remain high for Cobra Kai's final season to deliver significant moments ahead.
