If you’re searching for subtlety, Son of Sardaar 2 is not your destination. But if you’re in the mood for a loud, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt rollercoaster, buckle up—because Ajay Devgn is back, louder and livelier than ever. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, this not-quite-a-sequel spiritual successor to the 2012 masala hit takes familiar tropes—mistaken identities, family drama, culture clashes—and amps them up with clever writing, sharp timing, and an emotional core that sneaks up on you.
Ajay Devgn returns as Jassi Randhawa, now living in Punjab with a broken heart and unfinished business with his estranged wife Dimple (Neeru Bajwa). But the real story kicks off when he lands in London and gets roped into an elaborate lie involving a fake father-daughter act, a strict traditionalist NRI family, and a whole lot of dancing. Mrunal Thakur plays Rabia, the brains behind the ruse and the heartbeat of the film. Their dynamic is playful and refreshingly non-formulaic, balancing the madness with moments of sincerity.
The film thrives on its ensemble. Deepak Dobriyal is a show-stealer as Gul, a transgender character who isn’t a punchline but a pillar of warmth, wit, and wisdom—a rarity in mainstream Indian cinema. Ravi Kishan brings down the house as Raja Sandhu, the over-the-top patriarch who mixes regional machismo with hilarious paranoia. Every scene he's in feels like controlled chaos, and somehow, it works.
What elevates Son of Sardaar 2 beyond standard slapstick fare is its confident direction and keen sense of tone. The humour never turns mean, the emotions feel earned, and the chaos is choreographed just enough to keep things coherent. Arora lets the visual grandeur—from mustard fields in Punjab to the foggy charm of Scotland—breathe, without losing narrative momentum. The soundtrack, loaded with dhol beats and dance-floor energy, does its job of keeping spirits high without derailing the story.
Produced by Devgn Films and Jio Studios, Son of Sardaar 2 is about found families, second chances, and the absurdity of cultural posturing. It's a film that embraces its madness but doesn't shy away from tenderness. For all its noise and colour, it has a big, beating heart—and that’s what makes it more than just another comedy sequel.
