Saumitra Singh's "House of Lies" sets the stage for a gripping murder mystery but falters in its execution, leaving audiences wanting more substance and intrigue.
The film follows Inspector Rajveer Singh Choudhary and his team's investigation into the murder of Albert Pinto, a case riddled with conflicting testimonies and hidden motives. As the plot unfolds, tensions rise between Rajveer and Officer Sashi from the Enforcement Directorate, adding an extra layer of complexity to an already convoluted narrative.
While the premise holds promise, the film struggles to deliver on its potential. The storytelling lacks the necessary tension and suspense expected of a murder mystery, with verbose exposition and lackluster reveals dampening the impact of key plot points.
Performance-wise, the cast fails to elevate the material. Sanjay Kapoor's portrayal of Rajveer lacks the vigor and sharpness one would expect from a seasoned investigator, while Simran Kaur Suri's Officer Sashi offers only a fleeting spark of energy amidst a sea of mediocrity. Supporting characters suffer from underdevelopment, leaving little room for audience engagement or investment in their arcs.
One of the film's biggest missteps is its lack of originality, evidenced by its borrowed title from an American series. This oversight adds unnecessary confusion and sets false expectations for viewers.
Despite its ambitious setup, "House of Lies" ultimately falls short of delivering a satisfying mystery experience. The conflicting investigative approaches and forced twists feel formulaic and uninspired, resulting in a pedestrian viewing experience.
In conclusion, while "House of Lies" may appeal to die-hard fans of murder mysteries, it ultimately fails to leave a lasting impression due to its lackluster execution and underdeveloped characters.
