Directed by Sudha Kongara, Sarfira is the Hindi retelling of her 2020 Tamil drama Soorarai Pottru. The story loosely draws from Captain G R Gopinath's autobiography, Simply Fly.

Sarfira is the story of Vir, played by Akshay Kumar. He is an ex-Air Force pilot who harbors a dream of establishing a low-cost airline accessible to all. Despite setbacks, including meetings with influential airline owner Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal), Vir perseveres. His determined spirit is fueled by his fiery partner, Devika (Radhika Madan), who steadfastly supports him through the hardships. Alongside a small yet loyal circle of family and friends, Vir navigates the challenges, spurred on by their unwavering belief in his ambitious ventures.

Sudha Kongara's skillful writing and her adept staging of scenes stand out as the film's major strengths. From the gripping opening scene depicting a plane in distress to the profound exploration of Vir's indomitable spirit, the movie is punctuated with numerous standout moments.

Akshay Kumar's portrayal of Vir Mhatre captures the essence of struggle and adversity, creating compelling cinema. Radhika Madan delivers a standout performance, prompting one to ponder why filmmakers haven't offered her more diverse roles. Paresh Rawal portrays the antagonist with great conviction, and his on-screen rapport with Akshay evokes nostalgia for their previous collaborations and impeccable timing.

However, The adaptation,  suffers from typical Bollywood pitfalls, notably in its execution and tone, losing the subtle essence of the original Tamil film. The movie could have been shortened by 20 minutes, and the songs are unnecessary and don't add anything positive to the experience.

In the hindi adaptation, the director has focused more on drama than on depth. A lot of background music has been used which has made the emotions very intense in every scene and as a result it has gone overboard. In trying to make you feel emotional, 'Sarfira' forgets to show how Veer's business plan would really work, which makes it less believable.

Akshay Kumar's frequent appearances in biopics have led to a sense of oversaturation in the genre. His roles often risk becoming formulaic, blending into a pattern that dilutes the uniqueness each biopic should ideally bring to its subject.

In conclusion, Sarfira falls short of encapsulating the subtle brilliance of its Tamil counterpart, yielding instead to Bollywood's preference for overblown melodrama and superficial narrative.
