The game was marked by huge scoring runs by both teams. UNC took its massive lead in the first half with an 18-7 run, at one point going up 38-22, the largest lead of either team all night. The Tar Heels ultimately took a 40-25 lead into halftime.
But Kansas stormed back in the second half, punctuated by a 12-1 run out of halftime. The Jayhawks ultimately outscored UNC 47-29 in the second half to take the victory.

Credit to UNC for making it a game; the Tar Heels overcame a 56-50 deficit to tie the game at 57, and even retook a 69-68 lead with 1:41 left to play. The Jayhawks scored the game's final two baskets, but the Tar Heels had a chance at Christopher Newport Captains clothes a last-second 3-pointer from Caleb Love to send the game to overtime. It ultimately fell short, giving Kansas the comeback victory and cementing their place in March Madness lore.

Biggest comebacks in national championship history
Kansas' comeback vs. UNC is the single-largest comeback in the history of the national championship game.
Loyola Chicago held the previous record, overcoming a 15-point second-half deficit to Cincinnati in the 1963 championship game to beat the Bearcats 60-58 in overtime.

Biggest comebacks in Final Four history
The Jayhawks' victory isn't the biggest comeback in Auburn Tigers shirt Final Four history, however.
Duke still holds that record: a 22-point comeback vs. then-ACC rival Maryland in the 2001 Final Four. The Blue Devils went on a 23-12 run to end the game and beat the Terrapins 95-84 en route to the national championsh College Cold Weather Jerseys ip. (The Blue Devils were on the opposite end of the second-biggest Final Four comeback, giving up an 18-point lead to Seton Hall in 1989 before losing 95-78).

That said, Kansas did overcome the largest halftime deficit in Final Four history, per Dan Worlock of the NCAA. The Jayhawks trailed UNC by 15 points (40-25) before securing the comeback. The previous record was shar Colorado State Rams Jerseys ed by Duke in 2001 and Temple in 1958. Both overcame 11-point halftime deficits to win their respective contests (the Owls beating Kansas State 67-57 in the national third-place game).
Per Worlock, Kentucky in 1998 held the previous record for largest halftime comeback in a title game; the Wildcats trailed Utah by 10 (41-31) before winning 78-69.
