Wednesday's matchups featuring Bryant-Wright State and Notre Dame-Rutgers will mark the final First Four games of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the outcomes of which will set the final 64-team bracket.
In most years, the First Four games are merely formalities used to determine the final bracket; but 11-seed UCLA in 2021 (and 11-seed VCU in 2011) have shown why March Madness is so named. The Bruins last season ran through 6-seed BYU, 14-seed Abilene Christian, 2-seed Alabama and 1-seed Michigan in an improbable Final Four run before eventually falling to top overall seed Gonzaga (and that in overtime).

Will this year's First Four teams go on another Bruins-esque run? The Bulldogs (22-9), Raiders (21- College Cold Weather Shirts 13), Fighting Irish (22-10) and Scarlet Knights (18- Bard College Raptors Jerseys 13) can only hope.
Bryant and Wright State earned their bid to the First Four as a result of winning the Northeast Conference and Horizon League tournaments, respectively. Notre Dame and Rutgers' regular-season records were enough to secure their bids, even with first-round exits in the ACC and Big Ten tournaments, respectively.
