Richmond didn't CCD CityHawks shirt have to wait for the NCAA Tournament to inject college basketball with its first dose of March Madness.

The Spiders (23-12, 10-8 in Atlantic play) scored a massive upset over top seed Davidson in Sunday's Atlantic 10 championship game, thanks largely in part by an incredible 26-point effort from Jacob Gilyard. It's the program's first Atlantic 10 championship since 2011, which coincidentally is the team's last NCAA Tournament appearance.

One program's gain is several others' (potential) loss, however. Why? Because Davidson (27-6, 15-3) is a good enough program to earn a trip to March Madness as an at-large bid. So that means two Atlantic 10 teams will make this year's tourname Coastal Carolina Chanticleers shirt nt …

… And another deserving team will be forced out. Several teams could be on the outside looking in, most notably programs such as Rutgers, Notre Dame, Michigan and Texas A&M, among others. Which team will be most affected by the Richmond victory?

The Sporting News looks at each team's NCAA Tournament resume, and where they stand heading into the NCAA Tournament selection show:

Made NCAA Tournament

Michigan

Michigan was in danger of its NCAA Tournament bubble popping. The Wolverines went 3-3 to end the se Notre Dame vs. USC Rivalry Jerseys ason, including a 3-2 mark in the regular season with coach Juwan Howard suspended due to the handshake kerfuffle following the loss to Wisconsin.

The Wolverines have a 33.3 percent win against Quad 1 opponents and could never consistently win games this year (their longest such streak was three wins, twice). The team does have two wins against ranked opponents in Purdue and Ohio State, but suffered a first-round exit in the Big Ten Tournament. In all, the Wolverines have the worst record of any NCAA Tournament team, at 17-14.

Last four in

Wyoming

The Cowboys are 25-8 and 13-5 in th College Operation Hat Trick Apparel e Mountain West. Luckily for the Cowboys, the Mountain West produced four bids to the NCAA Tournament, most since the conference produced three in 2015. That was also the last time the conference produced more than two — before 2022, that is.

That said, the Cowboys still have to earn their way into the tournament proper, facing off against Indiana on the 12-seed line in the East Region as a First Four team.

Rutgers

The Scarlet Knights ranked lower than all other bubble teams in the NET, KenPom and RPI, but do have a respectable strength of schedule and a strength of record comparable to other teams on the bubble. Rutgers also has an impressive 6-6 record against Quadrant 1 teams — the only bubble team with a .500 record in that area and one more than the next-closest team, Michigan.

That Kentucky vs. Louisville Rivalry Jerseys includes an impressive four-game run against No. 13 Michigan State, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 12 Illinois. But the team also lost four of its last six games, including Assumption Greyhounds clothes a first-round exit in the Big Te Brown Bears Jerseys n Tournament. The Scarlet Knights are a First Four team as well, however, facing off against Notre Dame as an 11-seed in the West Region. Speaking of which …

Notre Dame

Notre Dame has a respectable record (22-10, 15-5 in ACC play). In a normal year, that might be enough to guarantee the Fighting Irish an NCAA Tournament bid. But the ACC is uncharacteristically weak in 2021-22, so that won't be enough to go off this season, necessarily.

The Irish took care of business against weaker competition, but were 2-8 against Quadrant 1 opponents. Like so many other teams on this list, Notre Dame suffered a one-and-done fate in its conference tournament, losing to eventual conference champion Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals. It still has to win a game to make the final 64-team field.

First four out

Oklahoma

Oklahoma was the second team out of the CMU Mavericks shirt NCAA Tournament. Had Richmond lost on Sunday, it would have been the first team out. A cold comfort, but still. The Sooners have several impressive Quad 1 and 2 opponents such as Florida, Arkansas, Iowa State, Texas Tec NCAA Crewneck SweatJerseys h and Baylor, all of whom were ranked at the time. That win over the third-ranked Bears, by the way, came in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament — a huge win at a great time.

The Sooners couldn't capitalize, however, falling 56-55 in a tough loss to the Red Raiders in the Big 12 semifinals. The loss is respectable, but the issue now is the Sooners' record: 18-14 and 7-11 in Big 12 play. The Sooners lost 11 of their last 16 games, but did manage a four-game win streak to end the regular season/Big 12 Tournament.

SMU

The Mustangs (23-8, 13-4 in the American Atlantic Conference) ranked well within the top 64 teams in the NET, KenPom and RPI. Their strength of schedule isn't great (94th), but the strength of their record (45th) indicates this team did what it needed to do against the right opponents. The Mustangs are .500 against Quad 1 and 2 opponents and have only two losses vs. Quad 3 and 4 opponents. They were the third team out.

Texas A&M

Texas A&M suffered a perfect storm of bad luck UNC vs. Duke Rivalry Gear on Selection Sunday, not only losing to Tennessee in the SEC championship game (costing it an automatic bid) but watching as the Spiders claimed the Atlantic 10. The Aggies were among the last two teams in per ESPN's Joe Lunardi. They were the fourth team out.

Texas A&M's exclusion was particularly tough, as it was playing like an NCAA Tournament team. That includes a seven-game win streak — before Sunday's loss to Tennessee — that included wins over No. 25 Alabama, No. 4 Auburn and No. 15 Arkansas. The Aggies are also a combined 18-2 vs. Quadrant 1, 2 and 3 opponents. That wasn't enough to earn a bid.

Others who missed out

Xavier

The Musketeers looked like a strong NCAA Tournament contender to start the season, going 12-1 and beating teams such as No. 19 Ohio State and eventual ACC champion Virginia Tech in nonconference play. Then Big East play began, and … it didn't go well from there.

Xavier finished the season going 6-12 and 8-10 in Big East play. That also included a stretch of seven games to end the season in which the Musketeers lost six games. This team struggled when it mattered most: in conference play, and to end the season.
